🎄✨ The holiday season is all about fun, family, and celebration, but socialising during the holidays can be challenging if you’re managing diabetes.

Keep these simple tips in mind to stay on track:

🍒 Choose your indulgences wisely – You don’t have to say "no" to everything. Enjoy small treats, but be mindful of your sugars. A little planning goes a long way.
🥂 Swap sugary cocktails for festive, diabetes-friendly drinks – Try sparkling water with a splash of cranberry juice or slices of lemon/lime. Refreshing, low in sugar, and still festive!
🍴 Bring your own diabetes-friendly dishes – That way, you'll have something safe and delicious to enjoy, and it helps others understand the importance of supporting your health journey.

🕺 Don’t forget to keep moving – Take walks with friends, family, or pets, or dance to your favorite holiday tunes. It’s a fun way to stay active.

Remember, the holidays are about more than just food and drink — it's about making memories, connecting with loved ones, and enjoying the season!💙🎉🙌

🍕 How can some people eat junk food and not gain weight? 🤷‍♀️

We’ve all wondered, but here’s the truth: thin doesn’t always equal healthy!

Regardless of our size, it’s important to make food choices that are nutritious to our body. A poor diet is one of the leading contributors to chronic disease in Australia.

That said, it’s okay to enjoy less nutritious food from time to time—in fact, it’s necessary! Restricting ourselves too much can often lead to bingeing.

It’s all about balance. ⚖️🙌

Consider things like nutrients, portion size and how often you're eating certain foods. Ideally it’s about quality over quantity when it comes to food choices. 🍏

The Hidden Risks of Yo-Yo Dieting 🪀

The research is clear: the larger we are, the higher our risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

But maintaining weight loss is hard.

When we lose weight, we’re motivated and it feels easier to stay on track. But when the weight creeps back, it can feel like failure, and the new habits tend to get flushed away — leading to a cycle of yo-yo dieting.

Instead it is important to focus on small, sustainable changes that promote gradual weight loss. These changes help you maintain better health for longer and reduce your overall risk. 🙌

Slow and steady wins the day💪

Yo-Yo dieting can be harmful to our health. A study examining the health of almost 10,000 people, found that large variables in weight was linked to an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and experiencing heart attacks.

Understanding the Body Mass Index (BMI) 📊

The BMI is a useful measurement but should not define a person.

Instead, use it to understand your health risks and focus on risk reduction.

🎥 Watch this video to learn more about risk reduction and how BMI fits into your overall health.
📊 Use the BMI calculator to track where you are and understand where you can be.
