CheckUP Australia CheckUP is committed to creating healthier communities and reducing health inequities for the people

CheckUP is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to creating healthier communities and reducing health inequities. We pursue this by working collaboratively at the strategic, regional, and local level to lead improvements in health. We design and facilitate the delivery of efficient and effective healthcare solutions. As experts in made-to-order health programs, we connect the right people and organisations to deliver a range of innovative healthcare services for hard-to-reach individuals and communities. We have an established footprint in almost 200 communities across Queensland and the Northern Territory, and our initiatives support people living in rural and remote geographical areas, as well as those with poor access due to social or economic barriers. OUR VISION

Better health for people and communities that need it most

Recently, our IWA Health Industry Workforce Advisor Alina Khalid had the pleasure of presenting at the Brisbane South PHN Practice Managers Network Meeting.

A huge thank you to Marina Meckhel and the team for having us and to every practice manager who gave up time in their busy schedules to show up and engage so openly.

Practice managers are the backbone of every thriving clinic and like so many across Queensland, they're navigating real workforce challenges around finding and keeping the right staff, rising workloads, and doing more with less.

The good news? Free, government-funded support is closer than they think.

Reach out to find out what's on offer for your practice.

Your voice matters. πŸ—£οΈ

The Voices of Queenslanders with Disability Survey is now live, and it's asking the big questions: Is life getting better? What's getting in the way? What would actually help?

This survey gathers lived experience insights to shape disability advocacy, supports and policy across Queensland. The more people who share their story, the stronger the evidence for change.

Free workshops for VET educators β€” and they're coming to a city near you.

NCVER is running a series of interactive workshops across every Australian capital city, designed to help VET leaders, teachers, trainers, and assessors strengthen their practice.

Topics include:
🧠 Managing diverse learning environments and psychosocial impacts
πŸ“š Supporting educators to build on their teaching practices
πŸ› οΈ Moving from theory to practice with new teaching skills

These sessions are part of a national project on strengthening teaching practice and psychosocial teaching methodology, funded by the Australian Government.

A strong VET sector needs strong educators. If you work in health and community services training, this is worth your time.

Progress is being made for people with disability in Australia, but there's still important work ahead.

Australia's Disability Strategy Targeted Action Plans Progress Report 2025 looks at what's changed since the 2024 ADS Review, with a focus on the areas people with disability said mattered most:
🀝 Community attitudes
🏑 Inclusive homes and communities
βš–οΈ Safety, rights and justice

At CheckUP, our NDIS Business Connect program supports disability providers, particularly in rural and remote areas and First Nations communities, to build the capability they need to deliver quality services.

Because a stronger disability sector means better lives for the people it serves.

Why do Queenslanders choose vocational education and training?

According to national data, the top 3 reasons people participate in VET are:

πŸŽ“ Employment-related reasons
🌱 Personal development
πŸ“– Pathways to further study

VET delivers on all three. From entry-level healthcare roles through to highly technical occupations, it gives Queenslanders the skills to build real careers and contribute to the workforce their communities depend on.
