📣 An important announcement re Queensland Mental Health Week 2026 📣

💜💚 It has been an honour and privilege for CheckUP Australia to have coordinated Qld Mental Health Week (QMHW) for the past 8 years. 💜💚

We have loved hearing about all the wonderful community events that have been held during QMHW. We strived to ensure that QMHW was celebrated far and wide and we are proud that the number of events held in Qld grew from 200 in 2018 to a peak of 550 events.

We know that QMHW will continue to grow under the guidance of the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health.

🙏 Thank you to the members of the QMHW Reference Group and Working Group for your commitment and passion.

Your help and support made a world of difference!

🙏 Thanks also to the Queensland Mental Health Commission for entrusting QMHW to us for the past 8 years. Your encouragement and help have been greatly appreciated.

🙏 Finally, thank you to the thousands of Queenslanders who hosted or participated in a community QMHW event over the past 8 years. Your passion has been inspiring and uplifting. We trust that you will stay involved and continue to shine a spotlight on the importance of community mental health and wellbeing, and staying connected.

Keep an eye on www.facebook.com/MentalHealthWeek over the coming weeks for information about Queensland Mental Health Week 2026.

🟢 Strong Futures Start Here | CheckUP is excited to launch a new, practical Workforce Planning guide created by CheckUP’s First Nations Industry Workforce Advisor to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and social assistance employers.

🟢 Funded by the Queensland Government and informed by learnings from CheckUP’s three-year Industry Workforce Advisory program, the guide provides clear, step-by-step support to help organisations plan, grow and sustain their workforce in 2026 and beyond.

The guide includes:

✅ A simple workforce planning framework

✅ Key focus areas

✅ A 12-step action approach

Read Hospital and Health Service's post, originally published 26 January 2026 on Facebook:

Congratulations to our very own Professor Kunwarjit Sangla who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia today.

Professor Sangla has dedicated more than two decades to continuously improving the care of people living with diabetes, gestational diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and diabetes in pregnancy in north, north-west, and central Queensland.
Health service chief executive Kieran Keyes said Professor Sangla wore many hats - doctor, researcher, teacher, patient advocate - and his passion to improve the health of First Nations peoples and people living in rural and remote areas was unparalleled.

“I suspect there isn’t another known clinician who can match Professor Sangla’s footprint in the delivery of face-to-face care to people in regional Queensland,” he said.

Professor Sangla said he was delighted yet humbled by the honour.

“This honour is both deeply personal and a tribute to the incredible communities I’ve had the privilege to serve,” he said.

“I want to acknowledge my colleagues and thank my patients who make every day worthwhile.

“And I’d like to say a huge thank you to my wife, Tina, who has been beside me every step of the way.”

Congratulations Professor Sangla!
