CheckUP is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to creating healthier communities and reducing health inequities. We pursue this by working collaboratively at the strategic, regional, and local level to lead improvements in health. We design and facilitate the delivery of efficient and effective healthcare solutions. As experts in made-to-order health programs, we connect the right people and organisations to deliver a range of innovative healthcare services for hard-to-reach individuals and communities. We have an established footprint in almost 200 communities across Queensland and the Northern Territory, and our initiatives support people living in rural and remote geographical areas, as well as those with poor access due to social or economic barriers. 🌟 Celebrating a day of connection, culture, and advocacy in eye health! 🌟

CheckUP is proud to be one of the many national peak body representatives and corporate partners in attendance of this year's Friends of Fred; An inaugural event hosted by The Fred Hollows Foundation's as part of the Indigenous Australia Program.

With attendees travelling from across the country, the day was a powerful celebration of First Nations leadership and allyship, bringing together the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health sector and highlighting the work done to strengthen care for rural and remote communities.

Our CheckUP team was honoured to attend this year's Heart of Australia Gala Dinner, celebrating their incredible work in delivering equitable access to specialist healthcare across Queensland.

Through their custom-designed mobile clinics – the iconic Heart Trucks – Heart of Australia is continuing to bring life-saving services and testing to those in rural, remote, and First Nations communities who need it most.

A special congratulations to Dr Rolf Gomes, founder of Heart of Australia, for being named Queensland Australian of the Year. CheckUP congratulate him on such a wonderful and outstanding achievement!

With 15 years representing Australia in wheelchair tennis and now delivering wheelchair sports sessions to 5,000+ students annually, DJ brings powerful lived experience to our conversation about breaking down barriers and building real inclusion.

He'll be joining Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM, Debbie Rooskov, Joshua Bamford, and Chithrani Palipana for an exploration of this year's theme: Communicate. Connect. Create.

A happy farewell and Congratulations to Aunty Gail Wason!

CheckUP would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Aunty Gail Wason, for recently moving on from CEO of NATSIHA (the Northern Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Alliance) to take on a new chapter as Practice Manager in Mareeba.

A respected leader whose contributions have been recognised through multiple industry awards, Aunty Gail’s work at NATSIHA has significantly improved the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Aunty Gail’s commitment to enhancing health outcomes has led to better opportunities for these communities and created educational pathways that supports young Indigenous students to pursue rewarding careers in health.

Those who have worked alongside Aunty Gail knows her for her generosity, unwavering dedication to the community by reminding everyone of the importance of connection, respect, and self-determination.

On behalf of the CheckUP team, we thank Aunty Gail for her incredible contribution and wish her every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter!

When Chithrani Palipana's son Dinesh was paralysed in 2010, she made a promise to stand by him.

Today, he's Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM, Queensland's first quadriplegic medical intern and 2021 Australian of the Year.

Chithrani turned her traumatic life experience into purpose. Completing a Master of Rehabilitation Counselling, she now empowers people with disability to rebuild confidence and pursue meaningful lives.
