Hi everyone...something important has been on my mind to share. As most of you that have followed my page for a while will know about my sons diabetes. He was 3 years old at the time of diagnosis and if there were any blessing in any of it was that I had 2 degrees in Nutrition behind me, so I instinctively knew how he needed to eat despite what the dieticians and hospital were telling me. I had a hard time those first few years advocating for my son. Every time we had a hospital visit I would have to put on my boxing gloves (metaphorically speaking) and fight for my rights and my sons rights to manage his diabetes how I felt was right for my son. It was hard not conforming to the hospital guidelines... they didn't make it easy for me, but I knew with all certainty and 5 years of study and many hours of my own research that what I was doing was right for my son. I guess I was lucky that those 5 years of study taught me to question everything, to do my own research and not conform to the 'one- size-fits-all' treatment protocols. Every single one of us is different in how we present with illness, disease, even wellness, and that what works for one may not work for others. So I guess my message in this post is when it comes to your own health and that of your family... question EVERYTHING, do your own research, join groups or forums that will support you in your health journey, change doctors if you need to, get second opinions or 3rd opinions, trust your intuition and fight for your rights and what you believe in. No doctor or medical practitioner can know you or your child's body like you do. If any of you would like to add anything to this chat or share your own experiences I would love to hear. β€
