Canaria NASA Endorsed Predictive Biometric Safety Systems for Cognitive Fatigue & Heat Stress Technology and Safety coming together in life-threatening situations.

Canaria Technologies (Canaria) was founded in London in 2016 by Alex Sorina Moss (Chair) and Dr Rob Finean (Head of Research). Canaria is a recognised leader in the emerging field of predictive biometrics, pioneering the next-generation of industrial safety equipment able to predict heat stress and cognitive fatigue events in real-time. Our NASA award-winning device is worn next to the skin behind the ear, developed to be a lifeline to people living and working in hostile environments. By providing round-the-clock, unobtrusive feedback on the wearer’s blood oxygen levels, heart rate, and atmospheric CO2 levels Canaria is able to alert the wearer of when to head back to safety with its audible danger threshold design. Data is automatically transferred by Bluetooth Low Energy to Apple and Android apps or even hospital eHealth hardware using the industry-standard Bluetooth Pulse Oximetry Profile. Canaria’s ergonomic design and cutting-edge technology mark it out as the future of live-saving wearable tech.

Our Story

What would a miner’s canary look like in the era of space travel? Canaria is a medical grade wearable powered by machine learning that detects and prevents catastrophic events caused by fatigue before they occur. Fatigue causes 2/3rds of all industrial incidents. This results in a loss of human lives and damage to brand reputation. In monetary terms, this is an average loss of $6M a day per company due in lost production, at an annual cost to the Australian mining industry of $2.5B.

Canaria gathers and builds individual bio-patterns of users through its ergonomic earpiece. These patterns (heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, respiratory rate, head position and temperature) are then analysed by its artificial intelligence system to warn both user and supervisor up to 10 minutes before an accident happens. In addition to warning users, logistics and safety supervisors can use the unprecedented data provided to improve their rostering.

Originally designed for NASA, Canaria is being specialized for the resources sector to solve the key problem of fatigue.
