Recoverying from breast surgery can sometimes leave scars feeling tight, unomfotable or restricted.

Low level laser therapy is one of the tools we use at LFP to help softern scar tissue, improve circulation and support healing.

Combined with MLD and tailored rehabilitation, this treatment can help restore comfort and movement during recovery.

If you are experiencing tight scars, cording or early signs of swelling after surgery, physiotherapy can help.

A common question I receive is:

"What does a lymphoedema physiotherapist actually do?"

Many people think lymphoedema treatment is just massage — but it’s much more than that.
A lymphoedema physiotherapist is specially trained to help manage swelling that can occur after cancer treatment, surgery, radiation, trauma or lymph node removal.

Treatment may include:
✨ Manual lymphatic drainage (gentle hands- on therapy)
✨ Swelling reduction by bandaging the limb
✨ Scar and tissue mobility through manual techniques
✨ Cording (Axillary Web Syndrome) treatment
✨ Compression garment fittings/advice
✨ Safe return-to-exercise programs
✨ Education to help you manage symptoms
long term

The goal is simple:
Reduce swelling, improve comfort, restore movement, and help you feel confident in your body again.

If you notice swelling, heaviness, tightness, or changes in your arm, breast, or chest after breast cancer treatment — early treatment can make a big difference.

Bookings can be made via: www.lymphflowphysio.com.au

Lymphoedema Awareness Week 💗

Recovery doesn’t always end when cancer treatment finishes. For many people, the journey continues with managing and understanding lymphoedema — early detection and treatment can avoid individuals having lymphoedema for life.

Lymphoedema is swelling caused by a build-up of lymphatic fluid, often occurring after lymph node removal, radiation therapy, or cancer treatment. The earlier it is recognised and treated, the better chance of reversing the condition.

⚠️ Early warning signs of lymphoedema can include:

• A feeling of heaviness or fullness in the arm, breast, chest, or armpit
• Swelling in the arm, hand, breast, or trunk
• Tightness in the skin or clothing/jewellery feeling tighter
• Reduced flexibility in the shoulder, elbow, or wrist
• Aching, discomfort, or tingling in the affected area
• Changes in skin texture or firmness

These symptoms can appear months or even years after treatment, which is why awareness and regular monitoring are so important.

As a lymphoedema physiotherapist, I support patients with:
✨ Early screening and monitoring
✨ Manual lymphatic drainage
✨ Scar and cording management
✨ Individualised exercise and rehabilitation

My goal is to help you move confidently, feel supported, and live well after treatment.
