6 Tips for a Calm New Year’s Eve 🎆

1. Keep them inside
Cat owners, remember that many cats wander off at dusk, so bring them inside in the afternoon.

2. Create a cozy hideaway
Set up a comfortable spot with their favourite blanket or toy. This can help them feel safe and secure

3. Mask the noise
Closing windows and curtains can muffle the noise. Play some relaxing music to help drown out the sound of fireworks

4. Tire them out
A fun play session or walk earlier in the day can help them burn off energy, so they’re more relaxed when the fireworks start.

5. Calming products
Calming treats, a pheromone diffuser, or a calming vest can provide extra comfort and help keep them at ease

6. Check their microchip information
Just in case they get scared and run off, ensure their microchip details are up-to-date for a quick return home.

Meet Frank 💙

Frank is an 18-month-old Arab X who has officially found his forever home after being adopted by our very own Head Nurse, Ash.

This bubbly young boy has settled in beautifully and is already making himself right at home. As confidence grows, we’re starting to see a few cheeky behaviours peek through. A sure sign he’s feeling comfortable and secure 😄

We’re so excited to watch Frank continue to charm everyone he meets. Welcome, Frank! 🐶 💙

Not every lump is scary—but they all deserve attention. Regular 'lump checks' during your pet’s visit help us track changes and keep an eye on things. And if a concerning lump does pop up, catching it early is best.
If you’ve noticed something new on your dog or cat lately, book in for a quick assessment. Peace of mind goes a long way. 🐾

❓️ Did you know- Some lumps can seem harmless at first but can become concerning if they change in size, shape or feel.

🚨 Parvovirus Alert: There have been confirmed parvovirus cases in the local area, with clusters reported in Hamilton South and Windale. We have recently seen a case at NLVC and want to ensure our community stays informed and prepared- it may only be a matter of time before more cases pop up in other areas.

What is Parvovirus?
Parvo is a highly contagious and life-threatening virus that can affect un-vaccinated dogs, with puppies usually being the most high-risk.

Common Symptoms to Watch For:
• Severe diarrhoea (blood may be present)
• Frequent vomiting
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Dehydration
If you notice any of these signs, please contact a vet immediately. Early treatment is critical.

How to Protect Your Dog:
✅ Vaccinate — This is the most effective protection. Ensure your dog’s vaccinations are always kept up to date. Puppies require a full vaccination course (3 vaccinations in total), not just one shot, and are not considered 'fully vaccinated' until TWO WEEKS following their third vaccine.
✅ Avoid high-risk areas — Keep unvaccinated puppies away from parks, nature strips, and public spaces where dogs frequent. Until fully vaccinated, keep puppies within your yard.
✅ Practice good hygiene — Parvo can survive in the environment for long periods. Clean shoes, leads, and surfaces after visiting public areas, and avoid contact with unknown dogs.

If you’re unsure about your dog’s vaccination status or have concerns, please reach out to us — we’re here to help.

Please share to help protect our local dog community ❤️🐾
