A big thank you to Dora, one of our fantastic RCS team members who supports Glenn, who has been proudly supported by RCS for over 7 years.

Recently, we had the chance to catch up for a quick chat to talk about Glenn’s supports and explore ways we can continue to build and enhance them. Pictured from right to left is Dora, alongside Sheryl (Supervisor), Glenn’s Support Facilitator, Glenn, and Trevor Green (Company Director).

We also got to admire one of Glenn’s favourite passions; his Rubik’s cubes and Star Wars LEGO. The collection he has built so far is seriously impressive, and it was great to see the pride and joy he takes in it.

Dora herself has been a loyal and dedicated member of the RCS team for over 3 years, and her commitment, consistency, and genuine care make a real difference every day.

Christmas at Real Community Services is a special time to reflect and recognise the people who make our community what it is.

We caught up with participants and staff to celebrate together and enjoy the festive season. 🎄✨

Thank you to all participants, support workers, admin staff, allied health, support coordinators and sector wide colleagues who take part in helping us give consistent high-quality support.

Mandatory registration for supported independent living (SIL) and platform providers will start on 1 July 2026.

This change will strengthen oversight and ensure providers are accountable for meeting quality and safety standards. Registered providers must pass audits, suitability assessments, and comply with strict worker screening and incident reporting requirements.

This announcement follows extensive consultation and aligns with recommendations from the NDIS Review, Disability Royal Commission, NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce, and the NDIS Commission’s Own Motion Inquiries.

We will share guidance on transition arrangements in early 2026, giving providers time to prepare while maintaining continuity of support.

Human Rights Day reminds us that behind every policy, every support service and every small act of kindness is the simple truth that every person deserves fairness, compassion and equality.

For many in our community, those rights are still something they’re fighting to fully experience. Whether due to discrimination, disability, hardship or systemic barriers.
At RCS, this day reinforces why we do what we do.
We’re committed to building a community where people feel seen, supported, and empowered. A community where human rights aren’t just words on a page but lived experiences.

Today, let’s honour the courage of those who continue to stand up for justice.
Let’s celebrate the resilience of people who keep going despite the odds.
Let’s recommit; as individuals and as a community to creating a world where kindness, equity and humanity guide us forward. 💛

🎨😂 RCS Team Paint & Create – and Attempt to Follow Instructions! 😂🎨

To wrap up the year, we swapped spreadsheets and pens for paintbrushes and very questionable artistic confidence.

We all attempted the same painting on our own canvases… and let’s just say:
Same idea ✔️
Very different results ✔️
Lots of laughs ✔️✔️✔️

Some of us discovered hidden talent, some discovered we should probably keep our day jobs but all of us had an absolute blast.

A colourful, chaotic, and hilarious way to celebrate the end of the year! 💙🌟

Bring on more fun moments (and maybe fewer paint-covered hands) in the new year!

🌍 Today we proudly celebrate International Day of People with Disability! 🌟

IDPwD is a global day dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and inclusion for people with disability. It’s a chance to recognise strengths, celebrate achievements, challenge stereotypes, and reflect on how we can continue to build communities where everyone belongs and has the opportunity to thrive.

At RCS, we wanted to mark this special day in a way that was fun, creative and meaningful for both participants and our team.

So we invited everyone to choose one word that represents what inclusion means to them — a feeling, a value, or something that makes them feel connected and supported.

The responses were thoughtful, bold, joyful and full of heart.💙✨

This simple activity became something powerful, a reminder that inclusion is built from many voices, many perspectives, and many moments of connection.

Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped bring our poster to life. Together, we continue to create a community where people are seen, heard and celebrated for who they are.

Here’s to inclusion — every day, in every way. 💛💙

🌟 Inclusion Matters — Every Day 🌟

“Inclusion isn’t an initiative — it’s a commitment to ensuring every person is seen, heard, and supported to live their fullest life.”

At RCS, this isn’t just something we say — it’s something we live.
From meaningful choice and control, to personalised support, to creating spaces where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered… inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. 💛

When we choose inclusion, we choose community.
We choose dignity.
We choose a world where everyone belongs.

🌟 Enjoying the Sunshine! 🌟

This week, Marie-Clare headed out to beautiful Raby Bay for one of her favourite things — a walk by the water, and it certainly looks inviting. 🏖️🚶‍♀️

What makes these moments extra special is the way Marie-Clare practices courage every day. Whether it’s exploring new parts of the community, trying different walking tracks, or simply challenging herself to go a little further, she shows us that courage isn’t loud — it’s steady, purposeful, and full of heart. 💛

We’re so proud of her commitment, her confidence, and the joy she brings to every adventure. Keep shining, Marie-Clare! 🌼

🌟 Opportunity for People With Intellectual Disability & Their Supporters

RCS is proud to share an important research opportunity that aims to improve healthcare experiences for people with intellectual disability across Australia.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is delivering the Primary Care Enhancement Program (PCEP) — a national initiative helping GPs and nurses strengthen the way they support people with intellectual disability.

A research team, including researchers with lived experience, is now seeking feedback to understand whether PCEP is making a real difference in GP clinics within selected regions.

🩺 What’s Involved
People with intellectual disability — along with a family member, carer, or support worker — are invited to take part in a one-hour conversation about their recent GP visits.
Participants will be asked:
• What worked well
• What didn’t work
• What could be improved

To thank participants for their time, a $50 gift card will be provided.

📍 Who Can Take Part?
Individuals living in:

Central Queensland
Fraser Coast
Wide Bay
Sunshine Coast

💛 How You Can Help
If you or someone you support lives in one of these regions, please consider sharing this opportunity. Your feedback can help shape more inclusive and accessible healthcare for people with intellectual disability nationwide.

Courage — The Quiet Strength That Helps Us Keep Moving Forward ✨

Courage isn’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s a small step, a brave decision, or simply choosing to try again tomorrow. 💛

This week on the RCS blog, we dive into what courage really means, how to build it, and how it helps us keep moving forward — even when things feel challenging. From small daily wins to big life changes, courage is the steady force that shapes growth, independence, and confidence.

🌟 Whether you’re supporting someone else or on your own journey, this blog is a reminder that courage lives in all of us — and it grows every time we use it.

When we think of courage, we often picture bold heroes, dramatic moments, or big, life-changing decisions. But in reality, courage is far more personal — and far more present — than we often realise. It’s the quiet strength that helps us take the next step, speak up, try again, or even ask for...
