🌧️ Wet weather is expected across South East Queensland, and the safety of participants and support workers remains a top priority at Real Community Services.

Please remember to slow down on the roads, avoid floodwater and take extra care when supporting participants in the community or at home.

For the latest weather warnings and emergency updates, stay informed through:

🧠 Did you know epilepsy affects people of all ages, yet many myths still linger? Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by recurrent seizures, and with proper treatment and support, most people can live full, productive lives.

March 26 is Epilepsy Awareness Day - Let’s break the stigma by sharing accurate facts and listening with empathy. If you have questions about epilepsy or first aid during a seizure, drop them in the comments or check trusted resources like the Epilepsy Foundation or Epilepsy Queensland. 💜 "

This March RCS is raising awareness for Epilepsy.
Epilepsy Awareness Day, widely known as Purple Day, is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about epilepsy and supporting people living with the condition.

đź“… When is it?
March 26 2026.

đź’ś Why purple?
Lavender (purple) is internationally recognized as the color for epilepsy awareness. Wearing purple shows support, understanding, and solidarity.

🧠 What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurrent seizures. Seizures happen due to sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain. It can affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles.

🌍 Why it started
Purple Day was founded in 2008 by a young Canadian girl, Cassidy Megan, who wanted people to understand epilepsy and know that those living with it are not alone. It has since grown into a worldwide movement.

🎯 Goals of the day
- Increase understanding of epilepsy
- Reduce stigma and myths
- Encourage support for research and treatment
- Promote seizure first-aid awareness

Join us in raising awareness for Epilepsy by wearing your most outrageous purple attire!

We’re often asked what it means when we say we are a NIISQ / TAC provider... so here’s a simple explanation 👇

NIISQ (National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland) and TAC (Transport Accident Commission – Victoria) are government schemes that fund treatment, care and support for people who have suffered serious, life-changing injuries in motor vehicle accidents.

If a person qualifies, the scheme pays directly for medically necessary services such as rehabilitation, therapy, equipment and ongoing supports.

Importantly: patients are not expected to pay privately for approved services. We invoice the scheme directly once care is authorised.

Being a registered NIISQ/TAC provider means our team meets specific clinical, reporting and quality requirements to work with participants who need complex and long-term care.

If you, a family member or a patient you care for has been injured in a motor vehicle accident and you’re unsure what supports are available, you’re welcome to contact us and we can help point you in the right direction.

Community Access that Builds Independence

At Real Community Services, community access is about more than getting out of the house.

We support participants to connect with their community while working toward their individual goals. Each support is personalised and focused on developing independence, not reliance.

Through community access and assistance with daily living via NDIS, TAC and NIISQ, participants can:
• Build social and communication skills
• Learn to use public transport
• Develop daily living and money-handling skills
• Increase confidence in community environments
• Work toward volunteering, education or employment

Our support workers provide guidance and encouragement, then step back as capacity grows, because our goal is to empower people to live their best life.

FREE GROUP CATCH UPS SEQ

At Real Community Services, we believe that life should be bold, purposeful, and filled with connection. That’s why we’re thrilled to launch our social connection program designed to support NDIS Participants across South East Queensland to build real friendships, develop real skills, and achieve real outcomes.

Our Social program is the first to be rolled out for 2026. Community access isn’t always about where you go.
Sometimes it’s about who you’re with, the choices you’re supported to make and feeling like you belong.

Everyday moments like these build confidence and connection in ways that look different for everyone.

Over the long weekend one of our SIL groups came together to enjoy some delicious food and a few classic games including A String of Surprises, Chuck a Snag on the Barby and Land Your Thong in the Bucket. Plenty of laughs all around.

What does community mean to you?

Real Community Services holds regular town halls where all stakeholders are invited; including participants, families, carers and staff.

These town halls aren’t just meetings, they’re opportunities to share ideas, provide feedback and collaboratively shape services. By bringing everyone together, RCS ensures that decisions reflect the needs, experiences, and perspectives of the entire community.

Engaging in open dialogue like this helps build trust, improve services, and foster a stronger, more connected community.
