Today, APodA member and podiatrist Robert Mullins participated in a live radio interview with ABC Perth speaking about the regulated, evidence‑based infection control standards that podiatrists are required to uphold.

The discussion followed a recent ABC story involving a Perth woman who is now recovering from sepsis. We wish her all the best and want to use this opportunity to remind everyone that podiatrists are registered health professionals with specialised training in foot and ankle health. Anyone with concerns about the skin on their feet is encouraged to seek care from a podiatrist.

Podiatrists are registered health professionals with specialised university level training in foot and ankle health

What if the answer to podiatry's workforce shortage was already underway?

Since 2015, podiatry student enrolments across Australian universities have been declining. But a bold collaboration between Charles Sturt University and industry partners is changing that, increasing first-year enrolments by almost 400% in just one year, with 60% of commencing students based in regional and rural locations.

The secret? A hybrid model that lets students study online and complete supervised practice hours in their own community. No relocation required.

Associate Professor Caroline Robinson and Carol Mioduchowski share the full story in the latest issue of STRIDE, including how the 'podiatry cadet' model works and what podiatrists can do to support the next generation.
