🦠 It's World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week – a global campaign to raise awareness and understanding of AMR and promote best practices to reduce the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

Antimicrobial Awareness Week highlights the important role podiatrists play in preserving the effectiveness of essential medicines.

Together, let’s keep antimicrobial stewardship central to high-quality podiatric care.

To support best practice, we’ve selected key Journal of Foot and Ankle Research (JFAR) and The Diabetic Foot Journal article(s) below:

β–ͺ️ The financial burden of diabetes-related foot disease in Australia: a systematic review https://doi.org/10.1186/s13047-023-00688-y

β–ͺ️ The use of antimicrobial dressings for the management of diabetic foot ulcers: A survey of podiatrists in Aotearoa New Zealand https://doi.org/10.1002/jfa2.12032

Today is National Diabetes Feet Day – an opportunity for health professionals, researchers, and those living with diabetes-related foot disease to be involved, have their say, and help drive a national conversation to improve the outcomes for those living with diabetes-related foot disease.

There's almost 2m Australians (about 5.5% of the population) living with all types of diabetes, and up to 500k people living with silent, undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. Over 300 people in Australia are diagnosed with diabetes every day.
