When we make assumptions, we tell our ourselves that something is true despite not having any evidence to prove that is the case. Recognising when we make assumptions and asking questions to challenge them can help to break this cycle of negative thinking.

If you are struggling with these thinking patterns and would like some assistance, please call Elysium Psychology on (03) 9069 2103, or visit our website www.elysiumpsychology.com.au for more information.

Autism in girls and women is often missed, not because it’s uncommon, but because it can present in less obvious ways 🩷

Instead of outwardly disruptive behaviour, it may look like:
⭐️ Perfectionism
⭐️ People-pleasing and over-adaptation
⭐️ Heightened emotional sensitivity
⭐️ Masking social difficulties

As a result, many women reach adulthood without a diagnosis.
This can contribute to burnout, anxiety, and a persistent feeling that something isn’t quite right - without a clear explanation.

Recognising these patterns is not just about diagnosis, it can change how someone understands their entire life experience.
Because clarity often leads to self-understanding.
And self-understanding can change everything.

Grief in teens can be complex, overwhelming, and often difficult to express.

At Elysium Psychology, we recognise that when young people experience loss or distress, it can affect not only the individual, but their families, schools, and wider support networks. There is no “right way” to grieve, especially for teens, who may move between silence, emotion, confusion, and moments of seeming normality.

We encourage teens and families to reach out for support when things feel heavy or uncertain. Early connection can make a meaningful difference in helping young people feel understood, supported, and less alone in what they are experiencing.

Families and caregivers also deserve care and guidance as they navigate how to support a young person through grief. You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to stay present and seek help when needed.

If you or someone you know is struggling with grief or emotional distress, support is available, and reaching out is a strong and important step. Contact our Client Services Team on (03) 9069 5699 or email on admin@elysiumpsychology.com.au. More information can also be found on our website www.elysiumpsychology.com.au

This ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who have served and continue to serve.

At Elysium Psychology, we recognise that for many, this day can bring up a mix of emotions - reflection, pride, grief, and remembrance. It’s important to acknowledge these feelings and take the time to care for your mental wellbeing.

Whether you attend a dawn service, spend time with loved ones, or reflect quietly in your own way, we stand with our community in remembering.

Lest we forget. 🌺

A mental health care plan + ongoing therapy with a qualified psychologist can be a game changer for both short-term stability and long-term wellbeing.

A care plan gives you a clear pathway, subsidised access, and structured progress; you are not navigating it alone or dipping in and out of support.

While short-term help can ease the moment, real change usually comes from consistent therapy: building skills, understanding root causes, and preventing relapse.

Not all mental health support is the same. Psychologists are extensively trained in assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapies, making them better equipped for complex or ongoing challenges.

Different supports can complement each other, but if you are dealing with more than just temporary stress, structured care with a psychologist often leads to stronger, lasting outcomes.

🧠 World Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Day – April 23

At Elysium Psychology, we recognise the importance of nurturing mental health from the very beginning of life through childhood and adolescence.

Early emotional wellbeing lays the foundation for lifelong resilience, healthy relationships, and positive development. When children and young people are supported early, they are better equipped to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and stability.

This World Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Day, we encourage our community to:
💙 Prioritise open conversations about emotions at home and school
💙 Support early help-seeking without stigma
💙 Recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health

If you’re concerned about your child or adolescent’s emotional wellbeing, reaching out early can make a meaningful difference. Please call Elysium Psychology on (03) 9069 2103 to speak to one of our client service specialists, or email us at admin@elysiumpsychology.com.au. You can also visit our website www.elysiumpsychology.com.au for more information.

Together, we can help create a future where every young person feels understood, supported, and mentally well.

🌍💚 This Earth Day, we are reminded that caring for our planet is deeply connected to caring for ourselves.

At Elysium Psychology, we believe that mental wellbeing and environmental wellbeing go hand in hand. Spending time in nature can calm the mind, reduce stress, and help us feel more grounded in a fast-paced world.

Today is a gentle invitation to:
🌱 Step outside and breathe deeply
🌊 Take a mindful walk in nature
🌿 Reflect on small ways you can care for the Earth, and yourself

Even the smallest actions can create meaningful change.

Let’s nurture a healthier planet and a healthier mind, together.
