Grief in teens can be complex, overwhelming, and often difficult to express.
At Elysium Psychology, we recognise that when young people experience loss or distress, it can affect not only the individual, but their families, schools, and wider support networks. There is no “right way” to grieve, especially for teens, who may move between silence, emotion, confusion, and moments of seeming normality.
We encourage teens and families to reach out for support when things feel heavy or uncertain. Early connection can make a meaningful difference in helping young people feel understood, supported, and less alone in what they are experiencing.
Families and caregivers also deserve care and guidance as they navigate how to support a young person through grief. You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to stay present and seek help when needed.
If you or someone you know is struggling with grief or emotional distress, support is available, and reaching out is a strong and important step.
