Elysium Psychology extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the horrific tragedy in Bondi, and our hearts go out to Jewish communities across Australia.
We strongly condemn this act of hatred, violence and antisemitism, and we stand in solidarity with a community once again carrying the weight of grief, fear and intergenerational trauma in the aftermath of such violence.
Our thoughts are with everyone directly impacted, and we wish a full recovery to those who were injured. We also express our sincere gratitude to the first responders and community members who bravely attended and supported others during this incident.
We recognise that the mental health impacts of this tragedy will be far-reaching — affecting not only those directly involved, but also children, families, practitioners, first responders and the broader community. In times of collective distress, connection, compassion and care for one another are more important than ever.
If you are struggling in the wake of this event, support is available. We encourage reaching out for help, prioritising care for yourself and others, and limiting exposure to distressing media coverage where possible.
A list of national crisis support services, along with guidance for supporting children, is available via the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi):
