sometimes little things (like needles that are 6-10 x thinner than regualr needles) make a big difference!

Why do acupuncture needles not hurt?
Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. The needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes little discomfort. People often don't feel them inserted at all.

Chinese tongue diagnosis is an essential tool used by Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners. Your tongue plays a unique role in understanding your overall health; it is the only organ that is both interior AND exterior. By examining your tongue, a skilled Chinese Medicine practicioner will be able to determine deficiencies and excesses in your constitution. A healthy tongue is naturally pink and has a thin white coating. Call or book your Chinese Medicine Consult at Brunswick Acupuncture today!

-The ancient art of acupuncture has been used in Asia for centuries to treat many conditions and relieve pain. It's now being used in the United States and other Western countries to ease everything from low back pain, to nerve pain (such as painful shingles rashes), to headaches, fibromyalgia, and menstrual cramps — and more.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin at specific "acupoints." This may relieve pain by releasing endorphins, the body's natural pain-killing chemicals, and by affecting the part of the brain that governs serotonin, a brain chemical involved with mood.

In Chinese acupuncture, the acupuncturist may turn or twirl the needles slightly or apply heat or electrical stimulation to enhance the effects.

The Yellow Emperor's Classic (Huangdi Neijing) written around 100 BC introduced the concept of using acupuncture to manipulate the flow of life energy (qi) in a network of meridian (channels) in the body. The network concept was made up of acu-tracts, such as a line down the arms, where it said acupoints were located. Some of the sites acupuncturists use needles at today still have the same names as those given to them by the Yellow Emperor's Classic. Numerous additional documents were published over the centuries introducing new acupoints. By the 4th century AD, most of the acupuncture sites in use today had been named and identified.
