Expressing emotions may feel difficult if…

💛 You grew up in an environment where emotions weren’t welcomed or were shut down.

💛 You were told to “get over it” or “stop being so sensitive.”

💛 You learned that being “strong” meant staying silent.

💛 You fear being judged, rejected, or misunderstood.

💛 You don’t fully understand what you’re feeling or why.

💛 You’ve been the caretaker for others and never had space for your own emotions.

💛 You associate vulnerability with weakness.

💛 You’re used to keeping the peace, even at the cost of your own needs.

💛 You worry that if you start feeling, the emotions will never stop.

And sometimes it’s not even about expression. Sometimes you can’t access what you’re feeling at all.

Both are valid. Both make complete sense.

This is exactly what I work with.

Because what we suppress doesn’t just disappear. It lives in the body.

And over time it can show up as tension, fatigue, numbness, feeling stuck, or for some people physical symptoms they can’t quite explain.

When the body finally feels safe enough to feel, things start to shift.

To get a sense of where they’re at, I’ll ask about their relationship with emotional expression

Is it something they feel comfortable expressing
or is it something that feels quite challenging

Even if it doesn’t feel safe to express it around others
do you let yourself feel it on your own at all?

And more often than not
people say they’re not comfortable

or they don’t feel like they can access that emotion to allow it to be expressed.

And I really understand that…

Because for a lot of people
it hasn’t felt safe to express emotion 🫶

Maybe you were told not to cry…
not to be too much or to just get on with it.

So over time that part of you gets pushed down and denied.

I’m someone who feels things quite deeply 🙏🏼

And I feel really comfortable holding people in that space so they can begin to express what’s there in a way that feels right for them.

This work isn’t about forcing anything
or creating some big breakthrough.

It’s about reconnecting you back to you 💛

And allowing your body to begin processing
what it’s actually ready to process.

It’s such a frustrating place to be in 🫠🫠

Because your mind is saying “just do it”

and another part of you (usually your body) is resisting.

You’re not distracted because you don’t care

If anything you care too much.

That’s why you keep thinking about it going over it again and again 😵‍💫

But when it actually comes time to move something in you pulls back.

And then you’re left sitting there feeling ‘stuck’ and frustrated with yourself.

Most people think they just need to be more disciplined

Or
they need to push through, try a little harder, do more -
hello hustle culture 👋

But that’s not usually what’s going on…

There’s often something underneath this that’s trying to protect you in some way.

And once you start to see that it shifts how you relate to yourself completely.

I think sometimes we feel like we’re coping pretty well. We’re getting through the day, doing what needs to be done. And from the outside, it can look like we’re managing just fine.

But the body often starts giving subtle signals when it’s being pushed beyond capacity.

Often it shows up in small things that are easy to brush off or normalise.

👀 Waking in the middle of the night
😴 Feeling exhausted no matter how much you sleep
🍬 Craving sugar or quick comfort foods
😬 Finding it hard to actually relax or sit still
🍷 Feeling like you need alcohol to properly unwind
😵‍💫 Low back tension or aches
💩 Digestive or gut issues showing up
👁 Eye twitching or random muscle tension
🔥 Skin flare ups or acne that won’t settle
😡 Feeling quicker to frustration or losing patience
🥱 Waking up tired even after a full night’s sleep

Sometimes these are simply signs that your nervous system has been carrying more than it has capacity for.

And because many of us are used to pushing through, we don’t always realise how much pressure our system has been under until it starts showing up like this.

If you recognised yourself in a few of these, your body might simply be asking for a different kind of support right now.

For a long time I did not let myself fully feel happy.

Every time life felt good, a part of me would tighten and expect something to go wrong.

My body had learned that joy was risky.
That expansion meant collapse.
That good moments did not last.

So without realising it, I would hold back.

I would keep one foot on the brake.
I would not let myself fully land in the good, because it felt safer to stay half prepared for loss. 😏

Healing for me has not only been about processing hard things.

It has been learning how to stay open when life feels good. 🤍

How to let joy in my body without bracing.

How to trust my capacity to hold both ease and challenge.

When your nervous system starts to feel safe, happiness does not feel like a setup.

It feels like something you are allowed to experience and stay in.

Sometimes we can feel that something in our life needs to change…but we hesitate to make the move because we feel like we should have the next steps all figured out first.

When we’re in these in between phases, the nervous system can feel unsettled. Not because something is wrong, but because the old patterns are shifting before the new ones fully form.

This is the space a lot of people come to work with me in.

Not to force answers or figure everything out in the mind.

But to start building enough capacity in the body that the next step begins to feel clearer.

Over the years I’ve had to unlearn a few things that weren’t actually supporting my body the way I thought they were.

Like believing my body should be able to handle the same things it did 10 years ago. Thinking I had to do everything alone. The low-calorie mindset. Pushing through fatigue.

The way we support our body often needs to evolve with the season we’re in.

Sometimes that’s more rest, eating properly, stronger boundaries… and sometimes it’s letting someone support you instead of trying to do it all alone.

Why does everything feel harder than it should?

Why can’t I handle things like I used to?

Why aren’t the things that used to work… working anymore?

Why do I feel so overwhelmed by things that never used to bother me?

I hear versions of this all the time — we women put so much pressure on ourselves to be who we used to be.

We wonder what’s wrong with us, because we don’t seem to have the same capacity we once had.

But your life probably doesn’t look the same as it did 5, 10, or 20 years ago. There’s often more responsibility, more emotional load, more people relying on you, and more moving parts to hold together day to day.

So of course the old strategies don’t work the same.

The real work is letting go of who you had to be before, so there’s space for who you’re becoming now. Learning how to support your system for this season of life, without the pressure of trying to recreate some past version of yourself.
