Research over the last 2 decades has revealed the most amazing and intricate details of breast milk. Katie Hinde is a Biological Scientist and Associate Professor of Evolutionary Biology at Arizona State University. Thanks to her interest and curiosity, it has been discovered that:-
1: Baby's saliva sends messages via the breast cells, to the mother's body so that it knows what proteins, immune cells etc to provide in the milk,
2: Breast milk has a higher fat and protein content for sons
3: Breast milk of mothers feeding daughters is produced in higher quantities and the nutrient ratio is different to that of mothers breast feeding sons
4: Milk from first time mothers appear to have a higher cortisol content - leading to a different temperament of her baby
5: If her baby is fighting an infection, the mother's milk produces the specific antibodies within hours
6: White blood cell counts almost triple while macrophages increase 4 times returning to normal once the baby has recovered
7: Milk fat content is highest mid-morning
8: Babies who nurse longer get higher-fat milk as the hind milk has a higher fat content to the foremilk
9: Over 200 oligosaccharides have been found that are purely to feed the beneficial gut bacteria of the babies

I am in such awe of the human body and it's capacity. A complexity of things that is far beyond what we can possibly imagine.
