The food environment matters!!!! Today after my daughter’s netball game, this was the entire selection available for kids — chocolate bars, lollies, sugary snacks… and not a single healthy option in sight.
As a mum and a dietitian, it’s disappointing to see this become the norm after children’s sports. Our kids are moving their bodies, playing hard, building teamwork and confidence — yet the food environment around them doesn’t support the healthy habits we try to teach at home.
Imagine if post-game snacks helped refuel their bodies rather than work against their energy, mood, and long-term health. Even simple options like fruit, yoghurt pouches, cheese sticks, popcorn, or wholefood bars would make such a difference.
This isn’t about perfection — it’s about giving kids one supportive option.
Our little athletes deserve better ❤️🩹.
