Last week the DXC Medical SA team caught up to enjoy coffee, sunshine and time together away from the screen.

While they all work from home, and ironically live within about 10 minutes of each other, it’s easy to let weeks pass without actually sitting down face to face.

Sometimes stepping away from the screen is exactly what you need to recharge, reconnect and reset.

In our latest episode of our Inside Urgent Care blog series we sat down with A/Prof John Adie to discuss the growing role of Urgent Care Clinics in Australia, and where this model is heading next.

Primary care is constantly evolving and Urgent care is no longer a side conversation. It’s becoming a structured, expanding part of Australia’s healthcare system, integrated within general practice, supported by federal investment, and increasingly attractive to GPs seeking variety and flexibility.

John brings more than a decade of experience in urgent care development and now leads Training & Education for Urgent Care Clinics nationally at ForHealth Group.

Our discussion explored:

• Why urgent care is accelerating across Australia
• How the Australian model differs from overseas systems
• What working in urgent care actually looks like for GPs
• The upcoming micro-credentialling program and Graduate Certificate in Urgent Care

What stood out is that urgent care isn’t replacing general practice, it’s complementing it. It offers procedural exposure, defined shifts, and acute presentations, while remaining grounded in primary care.

For GPs thinking about how to diversify their clinical scope, or practices considering how urgent care fits into the broader ecosystem, this conversation provides important context.

We’ll continue to see refinement, education pathways, and national standards develop over the coming years.

If you’re curious about where urgent care may fit within your career pathway, you can read the full interview on the DXC Medical website: www.dxcmedical.com.au

After more than 14 years in traditional general practice, Dr Sivateja Mukkamala was looking for a way to reconnect with acute, hands-on clinical work, without stepping away from continuity of care.

In our latest Inside Urgent Care feature, he shares why he decided to explore urgent care, how it complements his work in general practice, and why he believes urgent care plays an important role in Australia’s healthcare system.

👉 For GPs curious about urgent care, read on the DXC Medical website how Dr Siva balances his regular GP role alongside urgent care work. www.dxcmedical.com.au

To finally see an International Doctor you have supported land in Australia to start their new life and career is something special. For DXC Medical's Adelene Chew, she had the pleasure of supporting Dr. sufyan saad on his journey from Pakistan to Bunbury, Western Australia, and see him settle into both his new role and community.

In our latest GP Journeys blog, Dr. Sufyan shares what relocating to Australia really looked like, from choosing WA (even when it wasn’t originally on the radar) to navigating the PEP Specialist Pathway and finding a strong sense of belonging along the way.
- Why Australia stood out among global options
- The realities of relocation and pathway progression
- Adapting to Australian general practice
- Finding community in regional WA

For international GPs considering their next step, his story offers honest insight and reassurance.

Did you know that Australia is the only country in the world with TWO GP colleges?

So, what is the difference between the RACGP and ACRRM?

In simple terms:

RACGP = Traditional community GP pathway
ACRRM = Rural generalist pathway with extended scope

Both are recognised by AHPRA and Medicare and offer specialist GP qualifications and a range of pathways to independent practice in Australia

The right choice depends on where you want to work and how broad you want your clinical scope to be.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)

Qualification: FRACGP
Primary Focus: Community-based general practice (metro, regional, rural)

Location requirements: The majority of international medical graduates will be required to work in a MMM2-7 location

Training pathways: AGPT, Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS), Fellowship Support Program (FSP), Specialist Pathway

Key Features
- Strong focus on office-based general practice
- Suitable for metropolitan and regional careers
- Less emphasis on hospital-based or procedural work
- Structured exams (including written and clinical components)

Best suited for doctors planning to work mainly in community GP clinics, particularly in metropolitan or larger regional areas.

Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)

Qualification: FACRRM
Primary Focus: Rural and remote generalist medicine

Location requirements: At least 12 months rural and remote context need to be completed in a MMM4-7 location

Training pathways: AGPT, Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS), Independent Pathway (AiP), Specialist Pathway

Key Features
- Designed specifically for rural and remote practice
- Includes emergency medicine and rural hospital work
- Advanced Specialised Training (e.g. obstetrics, anaesthetics)
- Workplace-based assessments alongside exams
- Broader procedural and hospital scope

Best suited for doctors who want autonomy, procedural skills, hospital involvement, and rural or remote careers.

Planning on moving from hospital to General Practice?

For doctors, the hospital is where the journey begins. It’s where clinical skills are sharpened, confidence is built, and resilience is tested. Yet, while hospitals provide a strong foundation, they don’t always offer the long-term career or lifestyle balance that doctors are seeking.

General Practice presents a different pathway. It’s a specialty that allows doctors to step into continuity of care, build deeper patient relationships, and rediscover balance outside of medicine. Beyond the clinical benefits, GPs often find:

- A stronger sense of community and connection
- More predictable working hours
- Space for family, personal growth, and wellbeing
- A career that evolves alongside their life stage

It is usually at this stage that the confusion begins, especially for international medical graduates.

FSP, PFP, RVTS, IP, AGPT, RACGP, ACRRM, DPA, MMM.........what do they all mean!

Choosing the right GP training pathway is as important as choosing the perfect location for you and your family...........and this is where the DXC Medical Recruitment team come in.

Our team has helped more than 350 GPs enter GP training in the last 7 years, which is a number we are incredibly proud of.

We will sit down with you to discuss the pros and cons of each pathway and location that you are considering.

We will map out the timeline on how and when to apply, as well as when you will be able to sit your college exams and achieve fellowship.

If you are thinking about your next step, be inspired by the experiences of doctors who we have helped find this balance and purpose in General Practice in our PracticeBound blog series. Visit the DXC Medical website to read more. www.dxcmedical.com.au

Many have previously worked for some of the leading medical services operators in Australia, including; Ochre Health; Jupiter Health; Hello Home Doctor; and Better Medical, which means they have a unique insight into selecting the independent or corporate practice that best suits you.

Recruiting an international GP can be a great opportunity for practices, but it often comes with a lot of questions.

You might be getting interest from overseas doctors but are unsure of their eligibility, suitability, long-term retention or the cost of hiring.

Or you’ve made a great hire, but the registration and onboarding process feels confusing and time-consuming.

Or maybe you’re simply thinking, surely there’s a better way to manage all this paperwork.

That’s where ADMIN+ comes in.

ADMIN+ allows practices (from MMM1 - MMM7) to outsource the complex, lengthy parts of international GP recruitment, from eligibility checks through to medical registration and onboarding, giving practice owners and managers confidence that everything is being handled properly, the first time.

In the past 12 months ADMIN+ has helped practices in metropolitan, regional, rural and remote locations secure GPs on the Expedited Specialist Pathway (ESP), ACRRM & Specialist Pathways and the Competent Authority and Standard Pathways.

As one practice shared:

“Our experience with DXC Medical Recruitment has been exceptional. They seamlessly integrated into our hiring process, helping us secure a highly qualified UK GP that perfectly matched our practice's needs. The efficiency and professionalism of their team have significantly contributed to the growth and success of our clinic.”

We’ve also just published a new ADMIN+ Snapshot blog, sharing insights into how practices across Australia are using ADMIN+ to welcome international doctors with confidence.

𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐤 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠?

While mixed billing remains the preferred model for many GPs, including newly fellowed and seasoned VR GPs, bulk billing shouldn’t be overlooked. Here’s why 👇

Recently DXC Medical's Adelene Chew had a conversation with one of our long-standing, well established clients in WA. After crunching the numbers using the most commonly billed Medicare item numbers, the results spoke for themselves.

𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑘 𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑢𝑙𝑡 𝑖𝑛:
💰 ~$60k p.a. for a GP working 10 sessions per week
💼 ~$30–40k p.a. for part-time GPs

This isn’t about saying mixed billing is wrong. For many practices and GPs, it will still be the right model.

But what is clear: Bulk billing shouldn’t be dismissed without running the numbers.

With the new incentives, in certain locations and patient demographics, Bulk billing may now be more financially viable than expected, while also improving access to care.

When considering your next role, it’s worth keeping an open mind and not overlooking bulk-billing opportunities.

Understanding the financial implications is key, not just for practice sustainability, but for making informed, confident decisions that work for both GPs and patients.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

It is also an important point to note then when a clinic says it's bulk billing, it does not mean everything is being bulk billed but more so the consultations. Procedural work still entail a gap fee payment.

Ghosting isn’t just a dating-app problem.

It’s alive and well in recruitment too.

Introductions that start strong… then quietly disappear.

One of the hardest moments in recruitment is when:
• The interview is confirmed
• Your client has made time
• The call is set (or the room is booked)

…and the candidate is a no show.

No email. No call. No message. No explanation.

In an industry built on people, communication is everything.
A simple message goes a long way.

And while candidate ghosting does happen from time to time, it’s important to remember it’s the exception, not the rule.

For every no-show, there are many good doctors who communicate openly, show up prepared, respect everyone’s time, and genuinely value the recruitment process.

Those are the moments that remind us why we do what we do.

Because when the right doctor and the right practice connect, it makes a real difference, for teams, for communities, and ultimately for patient care.
