For our Lower South West participants and families.... hop on!
DUNSBOROUGH residents will have more options to get out and about, thanks to a new local affiliated branch of Cycling Without Age.
The service will take older people, those with disabilities or those who can no longer cycle independently out for free rides on specially built electric trishaw bikes.
Cycling Without Age is a global movement now active in over 42 countries, with 47 member branches in operation across Australia, boasting almost 1000 volunteers.
The Dunsborough group plans to initially acquire one trishaw e-bike and long term possibly another one or two depending on demand and available funding.
The specially-designed electric trishaws cost approximately $10,000 each and will be ridden by trained volunteer pilots.
The rides will take place along the Dunsborough coastal path, enabling passengers to feel the wind in their hair and engage with their community.
Rides are proposed to start and end at the end of Dunn Bay Road, opposite Sora Cafe.
"This new community project follows a simple but powerful model of generosity, slow cycling, storytelling and relationships," a spokesperon said.
"The benefits include reduced isolation and enhanced quality of life for the passengers through social engagement, fresh air, smiles and conversation, and joy for all and a more connected Dunsborough community."
The inaugural volunteer committee includes Grant Girdler, Vicky Small and Janine Johnson.
They are welcoming offers of support or funding assistance from local businesses and the community.
The team have recently applied to the City of Busselton through their You Choose Community Funding Program, where locals have the chance to vote for projects they would like to see supported.
Those who would like to see this service operating in Dunsborough are urged to vote at yoursay.busselton.wa.gov.au/youchoose.
Community voting is now open and closes on February 15, 2026.
