We've been going through our archives to celebrate 35 years of Enable WA this year, and found this post from 2013.

We think we've lived up to our promise! And we'll continue to work towards this future:

(2013)
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE
A life of love, dreams and choices where anything is possible!
We see a future where clients of Enable live typical but meaningful lives – lives that enable them to experience it all.
In this ideal future, people are free from stigma, labels and unnecessary controls – they have natural authority and are free to decide how they want to live, with dignity and self-respect.

In this ideal future, clients of Enable belong to the ‘everyone’, and have valued, fulfilling and enriching roles in our communities. Our communities are open, friendly and genuinely connected. People give relationships freely and value being with each other, regardless of abilities. Our places and spaces are universally designed for all to use, enjoy, work and be within.

If you ever visited our Manjimup office, you would have seen Christine's art on the walls...
Well, she's still painting up a storm! Over the last two weeks, Christine's painted these two beautiful scenes at the Lower South West craft group.

We're feeling like a Mediterranean holiday now! Anyone else?

Don't forget to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP!

Even if it looks overcast, up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can reach your skin.
That’s why wearing sunscreen every day, even in summer clouds, is super important.

If you have sensitive skin, here are a few tips when choosing sunscreen:
☀️ Look for fragrance-free, mineral-based options (like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide)
☀️ Check for broad-spectrum SPF 30+
☀️ Test a small patch first if your skin is extra sensitive
☀️ Reapply every 2 hours if you’re outdoors

Not feeling comfortable with your support worker?
Please let someone know!

Your comfort and safety matter, and you have the right to request a change.
Here’s what you can do:

1️⃣ Let your Coordinator know how you’re feeling. You don’t need to share all the details, just that it’s not the right fit. We can't fix something we don't know about.

2️⃣ Ask for a new support worker who might be a better match. You can mention preferences like experience, gender, or personality.

3️⃣ Work with your us to adjust schedules if needed.

4️⃣ We also have brochures available at our offices and on our website about the places you can contact if you are looking for guidance.

At Enable WA, we’re here to support you in getting the right people for your goals and comfort. We want your experience to be the best it can be!

For our Lower South West participants and families.... hop on!

DUNSBOROUGH residents will have more options to get out and about, thanks to a new local affiliated branch of Cycling Without Age.

The service will take older people, those with disabilities or those who can no longer cycle independently out for free rides on specially built electric trishaw bikes.

Cycling Without Age is a global movement now active in over 42 countries, with 47 member branches in operation across Australia, boasting almost 1000 volunteers.

The Dunsborough group plans to initially acquire one trishaw e-bike and long term possibly another one or two depending on demand and available funding.

The specially-designed electric trishaws cost approximately $10,000 each and will be ridden by trained volunteer pilots.

The rides will take place along the Dunsborough coastal path, enabling passengers to feel the wind in their hair and engage with their community.

Rides are proposed to start and end at the end of Dunn Bay Road, opposite Sora Cafe.

"This new community project follows a simple but powerful model of generosity, slow cycling, storytelling and relationships," a spokesperon said.

"The benefits include reduced isolation and enhanced quality of life for the passengers through social engagement, fresh air, smiles and conversation, and joy for all and a more connected Dunsborough community."

The inaugural volunteer committee includes Grant Girdler, Vicky Small and Janine Johnson.
They are welcoming offers of support or funding assistance from local businesses and the community.

The team have recently applied to the City of Busselton through their You Choose Community Funding Program, where locals have the chance to vote for projects they would like to see supported.

Those who would like to see this service operating in Dunsborough are urged to vote at yoursay.busselton.wa.gov.au/youchoose.

Community voting is now open and closes on February 15, 2026.

We’re in the news! ⛵️

Has anyone else spotted us in the Bunbury Herald this week?

Thanks to our amazing sponsor, Healthway for their very generous funding over two years which is vital to keep the program running and helps us purchase well maintained equipment to keep our participants safe.

We’re also grateful to Bunbury Machinery for donating the tractor that we use to pull the boats up off the beach.

Thanks also go out to Enable WA and the Greater Bunbury Rotary Group who are also major stakeholders and with whom we wouldn’t be able to operate without their support year after year.

It definitely takes a village and we’re just so grateful. 🥰

If you know someone who’d love to join our sailing program on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, share this post or pop along to the Koombana Sailing Club between 9am - 11am to check us out in person.

Who went to see YUNGBLUD in Perth on Tuesday?

Elissa made the trip up from Busselton with her support worker Sabrina to enjoy the concert and soak up the atmosphere. It was a night she’d been looking forward to, and from these photos, it’s clear she had an incredible time.

It's a well known fact that Yungblud is someone Elissa is a huuuuuge fan of! 🤘
