When it comes to managing dry, rough, or cracked skin, urea-based creams are a podiatry favourite.

1️⃣ Hydration: Urea attracts and retains moisture, keeping the skin soft and supple.
2️⃣ Exfoliation: It gently removes dry, dead skin cells to reveal smoother, healthier skin beneath.
3️⃣ Barrier Repair: Regular use strengthens the skin’s natural barrier, helping prevent future dryness and irritation.

💧 Urea creams come in different strengths from mild (9%) for daily hydration to stronger formulations (25–30%) for thicker, cracked heels.

We stock a range of urea-based moisturisers in clinic and our podiatrists can recommend the right percentage for your skin needs!

We’re so proud to share that our podiatrist Dr Nicole Seyler has been approved for her Endorsement for Scheduled Medicines (ESM) training! 👏

This means Dr Nicole is now a qualified prescriber for a select range of medicines commonly used in podiatry practice. Dr Nicole joins a small but growing percentage of podiatrists with this valuable qualification and skillset. It’s a fantastic achievement that reflects Nicole’s dedication to ongoing learning and her commitment to delivering the best possible care for our community here in the South West. 🌿👣

Our team had a fantastic day at the ACPS Flat Foot Symposium on Saturday!

The event brought together podiatrists and surgical podiatrists surgeons together to explore the latest evidence and surgical advancements in the management of flat foot deformity. Topics covered included:

- Biomechanical assessment and conservative management strategies
- Surgical decision-making and reconstructive techniques
- Imaging insights from a musculoskeletal radiology perspective
- Post-operative rehabilitation and long-term outcomes

Southwest Foot & Ankle Centre podiatrist Tom played an integral role in organising the event and delivered an excellent presentation. We were also proud to see our Surgical Podiatry Registrar, Kevin Ho, present alongside esteemed colleagues Mr Paul Armanasco (Surgical Podiatrist) and Steven (General Podiatrist), who all shared valuable insights into the management of complex flat foot conditions.

A special highlight of the day was a brilliant lecture from musculoskeletal radiologist Dr Ranieri Falcao Aguiari, providing an advanced perspective on imaging and diagnosis.

It was a privilege to be part of such a collaborative and educational event!

PODIATRY WEEK!! 🦶👟
This week we celebrate the amazing work of podiatrists and raise awareness about foot, ankle, and lower limb health. Our feet carry us every day, so naturally they go through a lot — let’s give them the care they deserve.

Many people don’t realise how foot and problems can affect knees, hips, and posture. This can go on to affect one's mental health, confidence, independence, performance and general quality of life. Simple checks & treatments can prevent and manage pain, injuries, and mobility issues.

See a podiatrist if you experience persistent pain, awkward gait, or any changes in your foot or ankle.

Thank you to all the podiatrists doing such impactful work — you step up for our feet every day! 💙

Our very own podiatrist Tom has conquered the infamous Cape to Cape Track in an incredible 22 hours, 15 minutes, and 19 seconds! 🏃‍♂️💪

To put that into perspective, the track typically takes 5–8 days to complete, making Tom’s effort nothing short of extraordinary. From the cliffs of Cape Naturaliste to the shores of Cape Leeuwin, he powered through some of WA’s most breathtaking terrain.

We couldn’t be prouder — what an inspiring demonstration of endurance, grit, and passion. 🌅👏

Have you ever seen a podiatrist use a doppler before? Did you know podiatrists use doppler ultrasound to assess blood flow in your feet and legs? 🦶
This simple, non-invasive test helps us pick up signs of peripheral arterial disease (PAD)—a condition leading to reduce circulation.

🔎 What we can detect with a Doppler:

Quality of blood flow in your major foot arteries

Early changes in circulation that may not yet cause symptoms

Risk factors for delayed healing, wounds, infections, poor nutrient and waste transport and other foot complications

💡 Why it matters: Good circulation is vital for wound healing, diabetic foot care, and maintaining overall foot health.

If you’ve noticed cold feet, leg cramps, slow healing, or changes in skin colour, it might be time to get your circulation checked.
