Today is the International Day of People with Disability 2025.

This yearโ€™s theme โ€” โ€œFostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progressโ€ โ€” reminds us that when every person feels included, our whole community grows stronger.

At ASC, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Weโ€™re proud to support people to achieve their goals, build independence and enjoy meaningful connections.

A more inclusive world starts with everyday actions. ๐Ÿ’œ

NDIS New Planning Framework
Big changes are on the way for the NDIS, but not just yet. The new planning framework has deferred its roll out to mid-2026 to give more time for smoother delivery and less disruption for participants.

The focus remains the same: a fairer, simpler system thatโ€™s built to last and supports people with disability today and into the future.

For now, your current NDIS plan continues as usual. Weโ€™ll keep sharing updates so you know whatโ€™s coming and when.

๐Ÿ“˜ Did you know?
Your Support Coordinator is here to help you make sense of your NDIS plan. That means making sure you understand:

โœ”๏ธ Your budgets โ€” how your funding is broken down and what types of supports and services you can use it for
โœ”๏ธ How your plan is managed โ€” Agency, Plan-managed or Self-managed, and the different processes for each
โœ”๏ธ Extra requirements โ€” when quotes are needed, what can or cannot be claimed, how much can be claimed, and when service bookings are required

A Support Coordinator walks beside you, so your plan works the way itโ€™s meant to. ๐Ÿ’™

Have you discovered new sound effects every time you stand upโ€ฆ creak, crack, sigh? It might be your bodyโ€™s way of saying: keep me moving.

โœ”๏ธGentle ways to keep your joints happy:
โœ”๏ธTry short daily walks, even around the house or garden
โœ”๏ธGentle stretches while seated or standing
โœ”๏ธLow-impact activities like recreational swimming or cycling
โœ”๏ธUsing mobility aids confidently โ€” theyโ€™re tools for independence, not limits

If moving on your own is difficult, supported movement or guided physio can help keep joints flexible and ease stiffness

โœจ Small, regular movement can make a big difference.

Some days drinking water feels like a full-time jobโ€ฆ but your joints, skin and energy will thank you for clocking in.

๐Ÿ’ง Staying hydrated does more than quench your thirst:
๐Ÿ‘Supports joint health โ€” especially important if you live with arthritis
๐Ÿ‘Helps medications work better and reduces some side effects
๐Ÿ‘Keeps your skin fresh and your energy up
๐Ÿ‘Prevents dizziness and fatigue, especially in hot weather

Admin confession: "carrying my 2L water bottle around kinda hits two birds with one stone, as I only need to aim for one big bottom up."

The Australian Government has announced Thriving Kids, a new program starting 1 July 2026, designed to better support children aged 8 and under with mild to moderate developmental delay and autism outside of the NDIS.

This program will:
โœ”๏ธFocus on early identification of developmental concerns
โœ”๏ธBuild on existing community and mainstream services such as child health, GPs, early learning and schools
โœ”๏ธBe shaped with input from experts, families, and states and territories
โœ”๏ธRoll out in phases from mid-2026
โœ”๏ธChildren with permanent and significant disability will continue to be supported by the NDIS.

๐Ÿ“„ NDIS has put together a factsheet to explain the details. Download it here: https://hubs.ly/Q03KJ-_X0

Good news for NDIS participants ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽจ
Art and music therapy will continue to be supported where it provides benefits.

Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s changing:
โœ”๏ธ Therapists must be fully qualified and registered
โœ”๏ธ New national price of $156.16/hr from November 2025
โœ”๏ธ Clearer rules separating therapy from recreation
โœ”๏ธ Evidence review to guide future supports by 2026

If art or music therapy is part of your plan, you can keep accessing it now, with updated rules to come into effect later.

NDIS planning is getting simpler
The NDIA will use a new assessment approach called I-CAN v6 to focus on what supports you actually need. Trained assessors will meet with participants aged 16+ and the process will roll out from mid-2026 in stages, with feedback shaping each step.

Nothing changes today. Keep using your current plan as normal. We will share more guidance as the rollout gets closer and can help you get ready.
