As clinicians, we know that a comprehensive history and thorough assessment is improving in achieving optimal outcomes for our clients.
Case study: This mama is six years postpartum and still navigating persistent pelvic girdle pain.
Her symptoms began after her first pregnancy (her eldest is now 12), returned during her second pregnancy (her youngest now 10), and became debilitating during her most recent pregnancy. Like many women, she was told
👉🏽 the pain would “go away,”
👉🏽 it was “normal” because it was “common.”
In reality, she said she felt unclear, and admitted she didnt have time to attend appointments, or a manageable home plan—and she struggled to understand when and why to use pain medication.
Her story is not uncommon.
Six years on, her pain can still flare easily—sometimes enough to stop her from going to work. Through a pelvic health physio lens, she presents with reduced pelvic floor function. Through a musculoskeletal lens, she demonstrates faulty biomechanics, altered gait, postural adaptations👇, and poor tolerance to uneven surfaces.
With this complexity, our approach needed to be tailored:
•✅️ Education, feedback, and awareness-building
•✅️ Addressing fears around movement and deep rooted concerns
✅️ A simplified, functional, and achievable home program
✅️ Clear strategies she can use independently
• ✅️ focus on restoring confidence and self-efficacy
What was most impactful for her? She now understands her condition and has the tools to navigate her own journey—because recovery from persistent pain is exactly that: a journey. One rooted in awareness, timing, and Addressing fears, restoring movement in the right way.
