🌞 Skin Cancer Action Week: Protect Your Skin, Save Your Life 🌞
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, with 2 in 3 Australians being diagnosed during their lifetime. The good news? Skin cancer is preventable, and when detected early, it can often be treated effectively.
As we approach the summer months, it’s important to remember the crucial steps to protect your skin from harmful UV radiation. Follow the Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide guidelines:
✔️ Slip on sun-protective clothing
✔️ Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen
✔️ Slap on a wide-brimmed hat
✔️ Seek shade when possible
✔️ Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian Standards
"Early intervention is key in treating skin cancer effectively. If caught early, many patients benefit from minimally invasive surgeries that can restore both appearance and function. Regular skin checks and sun protection are essential to reducing the risks," says Dr Sian Fairbank, plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
If you spot any changes in your skin, whether it’s a new spot or a change in an existing one, don’t wait. Get it checked!
