The Pregnancy Collective

The Pregnancy Collective Midwife, Hypnobirthing & Childbirth educator offering private one-to-one, group & online sessions to Gold Coast & Northern Rivers. About Kate.

Passionate about collaborative care, informed choices," empowering couples to approach birth with confidence & calm.” Hypnobirthing is based on the philosophy that childbirth is a normal and natural event and firmly believes that birthing should be a rewarding, relaxing and stress free experience where babies come into this world in a atmosphere of gentility, calmness and joy. Through a well thought out program of deep relaxation, self hypnosis, special breathing techniques, visualization, affirmations and education hypnobirthing returns to a woman the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts and birth her baby in safety and with ease. Hypnobirthing is based on the belief that severe discomfort does not need to be a natural accompaniment of birthing when a woman is properly prepared and trusts her birthing body. Hypnobirthing prepares the woman physically and mentally for the birth of her baby and prepares the partner/support person on how to work with you during labour to make your birth more comfortable, relaxing and stress free. HypnoBirthing teaches the woman and her partner how to achieve progressive relaxation. The couple will learn how to quickly enter relaxation and how to deepen the relaxation during the birthing process. When the woman is in a relaxed state she will be calm and relaxed and free to work with her body and baby the way nature intended. By the end of the course you and your partner will feel empowered, excited and ready for your birth. Your partner will feel confident in their role as your support person and the methods they can incorporate to get you into a deep state of relaxation quickly. The skills and methods that you learn to promote a calm and stress free labour and birth a life long skills that you take with you following the birth of your baby. Kate first competed her HypnoBirthing course in 2011 and since then has been helping Mothers and their partners to have the birth experience they desire. Kate is unique in that she is also a practising midwife and registered nurse on the Gold Coast and so fully understands all parts of the birthing experience. Kate is able to take you through all stages of pregnancy from antenatal care to your labour and beyond. Kate is extremely passionate about providing women centred care and about empowering women to achieve what ever their wishes are.

I’m 41 and learning to skateboard.

It started for connection- my boys were into it so i saw it as an opportunity for further connection.

I honestly didn't realise how much much inner "stuff" it would bring up for me..

The embarrassment.
The fear of looking silly.
The “what will people think?”
The old stories about not being good enough.

It cracked open so much inner child work I didn’t even realise was there.

But here’s the thing.

That’s exactly what I want my kids to learn.

To try things because they want to.
To show up even when they’re scared.
To not shrink themselves because of outside opinions.
To believe that age doesn’t define possibility.

The greatest moments haven’t been landing tricks.

They’ve been:
“Mum, can you skate with me?”
The high fives.
The hugs.
The pride in their eyes.

And here’s what I really want to say:

Connection doesn’t mean you have to take up skateboarding.

It means stepping into their world.

If they love something — can you be curious about it?
Can you sit and watch without being on your phone?
Can you cheer so when they look up, you’re already looking at them?
Can you talk about it at the dinner table?
Can you learn just enough to say, “Tell me more”?
I’m even learning Pokémon.

Do I love Pokémon? Not really.
Do I love what it does for our connection? Absolutely.

Our kids don’t need perfection.
They need presence.

And sometimes growth shows up disguised as a skateboard.

Ps a special shoutout to for making sure i don't hurt myself..too much... and for my other skater mum Amy!!! You guys are legends

Class 1 we always talk about Nutrition in pregnancy because it's something, in my opinion, that isn't discussed enough- women are told more often what not to eat rather than what to include and what their body and babies require. Lily Nichols, RDN book Real Food For Pregnancy is actually the first book I recommend. Along side that her website has a wealth of articles and FREe resources. This article on b12 is just one of many fantastic evidence based information on nutritional requirements in pregnancy. Worth a read.

How much vitamin B12 do you need during pregnancy? Hint: it may be triple what the current prenatal nutrition guidelines recommend. Vitamin B12 & Pregnancy: a nutrient crucial to your baby's health.

Hey ladies (and partners too 🤍),
I’m recording a solo podcast episode for birth partners and I’d love your help.

If you could go back to your birth:
What do you wish your partner knew about labour and birth?
What helped the most?
What do you wish had been done differently?

Your real experiences will help me create an episode that actually supports partners — and in turn, supports women better too ✨

Sweet Potato Brownies

These were surprisingly simple to make and they passed the kids’ test 🙌
They’re going to be such great additions to our lunchboxes this week, and of course… the perfect yummy snack for any postpartum mums or pregnant mamas too 🤍

Ingredients:
• 2 cup steamed sweet potato (mashed)
• 4 eggs
• ½ cup honey
• 6 tbsp oat flour (I just blended 6 tbsp of oats into a powder)
• 3 tbsp cacao powder
• 1 tbsp baking soda
• 1 tbsp ghee (or butter)
• 1 tsp vanilla essence
• Pinch of salt
• Chocolate chips to sprinkle on top

Method:
1. Blend the eggs, honey, vanilla and ghee until smooth.
2. Add in the remaining ingredients and blend again.
3. Pour into a lined baking tray, sprinkle with chocolate chips.
4. Bake at 180°C for ~40 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.

And voilà ✨

I’ll be freezing them too, so I’ll report back on how they go after defrosting – but so far they’re a big win in our house!

Hi community and friends..
I’m currently creating a new e-guide.
The whole idea of this guide is to support women right at the very beginning of pregnancy — when you’ve just found out and have no idea where to start.

I’d love to gather your input so I can make this as genuinely helpful and real as possible.

When you first found out you were pregnant:
– What were you most confused about?
– What information were you searching for?
– What do you wish someone had explained to you early on?
– What do you think every newly pregnant person should know?

Comment below or send me a DM — I’d be so grateful for your thoughts 🤍

🎙 New Episode: Exploring Menarche and The Menstraul Cycle with Jane Hardwicke Collings Jane Hardwicke Collings

Listen here to full episode
https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/what-if-we-were-taught/id1681511309?i=1000747489020

In this powerful conversation, I’m joined by Jane Hardwicke Collings — international speaker, author, and pioneer in the field of rites of passage for women.

Together, we explore how we can begin reframing menarche and the menstrual cycle, moving away from shame, silence, and purely clinical education, and towards a culture of understanding, respect, and embodied wisdom.

This episode is especially for parents who feel like they’re starting from scratch — those who were never taught about their own cycles in a holistic way and now want to do things differently for their children.

We explore:

• How to educate both daughters and sons

• When these conversations can begin and how to create a supportive household culture

• The cycle as seasons — emotional, mental, and physical rhythms across the month

• The powerful role fathers play in supporting their daughters

• Rites of passage, honouring menarche, and what society could look like if we truly supported cyclical living

This episode is an invitation to help remove shame, empower families, and create a cultural shift so the next generation grows up informed, respected, and deeply connected to their bodies.

📚 Book Giveaway

To honour Jane’s work, I’m running a giveaway of two of her beautiful books:

• Becoming a Woman: A Guide for Girls Approaching Menstruation

• Blood Rites: The Spiritual Practice of Menstruation

Love this post by Lily Nichols, RDN. We need so much more awareness into s***m health and the impact and role it has not just in fertility but also in miscarriage. So important.

We all know it takes two to tango, but even though males contribute half the genetics of a pregnancy, they are too often left out of the picture. This is especially true when it comes to studies on miscarriage and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL).
