Hello Queensland families. March is definitely off to a wet start for most of the state. This helpful link will help you stay up to date with local closures in your area

Much of Queensland is experiencing unpredictable weather and in the interests of putting safety first, schools may make local decisions about closures over the next 72 hours.

Please keep checking closures.qld.edu.au for real time updates. This site is updated regularly. Schools will also contact families directly if anything changes.

Stay safe: avoid flooded roads, follow advice from emergency services, and keep an eye on local updates.

We're seeing an increase in establishment fees being charged to Participants plans. This article is a great read to help understand when your provider can charge this fee

In some circumstances, the NDIA allows providers to charge for the time spent establishing support arrangements with participants- provided the participant agrees, of course.

In this Ask DSC, we outline the criteria for Establishment Fees. We also look at key things providers need to know (such as billing under the correct line item).

NDIS updates regarding funding periods. We understand funding periods can be very confusing to understand. The NDIS have updated the OG-Your-Plan with clearer guidelines as to how funding periods work. Below is a snip of the wording from the latest OG -

What if I spend my funding before the end of the funding period? You must stay within the funding amounts set out in your plan, including any funding component amounts and funding periods. Staying within your plan funding helps you manage your supports and makes sure your plan lasts for the full length of time so you can continue to pay for the supports you need. Usually, we are not allowed to pay for supports outside of your plan if you use up your funding before the end of your funding period. Under the laws for the NDIS there are some very limited circumstances when we may pay for supports outside of your plan. This might happen if there’s a serious risk to your life, health or safety, if you couldn’t ask for a plan change because of your disability, or if your plan funding was misused due to fraud. We’ll generally only consider paying for essential supports you rely on every day, like personal care, disability-related health supports or behaviour supports. If you think you will run out of funding before the end of the funding period you should contact your NDIS contact, support coordinator, or recovery coach as soon as possible. We can talk to you about whether there has been a change in your disability support needs and you need to change your plan. If your support needs have significantly changed due to an emergency or crisis and you need supports to help keep you safe, contact your NDIS contact, support coordinator, or recovery coach as soon as possible.

If you have funding periods in your NDIS plan it is important to note the release dates and funding amounts, and ensure you are only purchasing supports that suit the levels of funding. Plan Managers cannot back claim supports when new funds are released. The best way to stay on top of your funding utilisation is to check your monthly funding statement we auto-email on the 1st of each month.

Happy Wednesday!

Day 2 of the new year here in the PSR office. We hit the ground running yesterday and processed a huge amount of claims. Unfortunately there was a large chunk of invoices that needed to be returned to Providers due to simple date errors. I understand it's a new year and we're still remembering it's 2026 not 2025.

We do ask that everyone takes an extra 2mins to review their invoice before submitting this to us. Invoices are legal documents and are being used to support Disability Insurance claims. It is vital that the information you are supplying via your invoice is 100% correct.

It would really help us if you could please double check your invoice date is correct, and most importantly you are recording the support date/s on your invoice. We understand that in some cases the support date may be the same as the invoice date. However, that's not the case for every invoice and this is why it is best practice to supply the support date in the description of your invoice. Even if you write 'invoice date is support date' that's perfectly ok.

Please reach out to our team if you have any questions we're always happy to help where we can.

Have a wonderful Wednesday
