If a person has a communication impairment, their behaviour is often telling us something their communication system cannot.

Behaviour = Communication.

When Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) are developed without a communication lens, we risk managing behaviour rather than understanding it. If a person cannot reliably express needs, process demands, or repair communication breakdowns, escalation becomes predictable - not defiant.

Speech Pathology is not simply adjacent to behaviour support. It is foundational to understanding the communication drivers behind behaviour and supporting meaningful, sustainable change.

Given this, how can a Comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP) be written without consulting a Speech Pathologist?

💛 Today is MS Queensland Giving Day 💛

Many people in our community are living with neurological conditions, showing remarkable strength every day. As a speech pathology clinic, we see firsthand how these conditions can impact communication, swallowing and quality of life.

Women are especially affected, with three in four Australians diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) being female, and MS remaining one of the leading causes of neurological disability for women under 60.

⏰From 8am–8pm today, every donation to MS Queensland will be DOUBLED by matched funding partners, helping provide vital support and services to individuals and families.

If you’re able, we warmly encourage you to support this important day and help strengthen our community 💙 follow the link below:

Seen the IDDSI framework before and wondered what it means? 💙

It’s simply a way to make food and drinks safer for people with swallowing difficulties - no matter where you are. When everyone follows the same guidelines, mealtimes become more consistent, less stressful, and easier to manage.

Our team uses IDDSI every day to support safe swallowing while keeping comfort, dignity, and enjoyment at the centre of care.

Today we celebrate International Wheelchair Day ♿️ - a day to recognise the independence, mobility, and freedom that wheelchairs provide, and the incredible people who use them every day.

Let’s continue to build a world where every space, service, and conversation is accessible to all.💛

Telehealth speech therapy is great for flexibility, and great for results!

One of the hesitations some people have about engaging in speech therapy over the computer is that they won't see progress as well as they would face-to-face.

There's actually a lot of great research out there for a variety of conditions and concerns showing that speech therapy delivered online is just as effective!

If you or someone you care for are struggling to find a local speech therapist, or simply want simpler, more flexible access to speech therapy (without the additional cost associated with home visits) telehealth could be a great option for you.
