For more than a decade, Speak and Swallow Speech Therapy has been enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of adults and adolescents with swallowing and communication difficulties. As qualified and experienced Speech Therapists, we are dedicated to supporting individuals, their families, and carers to overcome, ease or manage speech and swallowing challenges with a holistic, person-centred approach. We strongly advocate for an inclusive and accessible service delivery by providing both clinic-based and in-home services – prioritising client comfort and convenience. Assessment, Therapy and Support for Adults and Adolescents:

• Chronic Cough
• Swallowing including Meal Management Plans
• Group Therapy Sessions

Speak and Swallow Speech Therapy provides in-house education and training for allied health professionals, carers, and support workers to build awareness and strengthen the quality of care available to people living with communication and swallow difficulties. While many of our clients choose to have their speech therapy at our Burpengary clinic, many are still seen in the community, and in their homes, by their treating Speech Pathologist.

It's an important part of what we do - we were actually a mobile-only practice for many years before our clinic was set up in 2023.

As we wrap up another big year at Speak and Swallow, I want to pause and acknowledge our incredible team.

This year has not been easy. We have navigated significant funding cuts, increasing complexity, and the ever-growing demands of detailed, time-consuming reporting all while continuing to show up for our clients with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. That takes more than clinical skill. It takes heart.

To my team: your unwavering dedication, empathy, and understanding, especially in the face of systemic pressure, has not gone unnoticed. You continue to advocate fiercely for our clients, hold space for families during some of their hardest moments, and deliver evidence-based care with humanity, quality of life, at the centre.

You also continue to embrace me — my constant stream of new ideas, courses, clinical initiatives, and “what if we tried this?” moments — with openness, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to growth. Watching you lean into learning, reflection, and professional development is one of the greatest privileges of my role.

We spend around 40 hours a week working together and who you spend that time with truly matters. This team is more than a group of speech pathologists. They are family.

Thank you for everything you have given this year - to our clients, to each other, and to Speak and Swallow. I am so deeply grateful and incredibly proud. 💛

What is Reflux? 💭

Did you know that reflux may be one of the reasons you or someone you love may need to see a Speech Pathologist? While it might sound surprising at first, there are significant impacts that long-term acid reflux can have on a person’s voice and swallowing.

Reflux occurs when stomach acid is no longer contained in the stomach and travels “back up” into the oesophagus (food tube) and pharynx.
