Lung cancer remains one of Australia’s most significant health challenges
Key facts:
✅Over 15,000 Australians will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year.
✅It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Australia.
✅Around 1 in 3 cases are diagnosed at a later stage, when treatment options are more limited.
✅The 5-year survival rate is 27%, highlighting the importance of early detection.
✅From July 2025, Australians aged 50–70 with a history of smoking can access free low-dose CT screening through the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Be aware of:
Persistent cough, breathlessness, chest pain, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss.
