Following weight loss surgery, alcohol is absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream, causing higher and longer peaks in blood alcohol level.
If you include, or are considering including alcohol following surgery, following are some of our recommendations:
🍹 Avoid all alcohol for at least the first three months following your surgery.
🍹 If you decide to reintroduce alcohol, do so with care. It may effect you much faster and one drink can feel like two or three.
🍹 Never drive after drinking alcohol, as even after one drink as you may be over the limit.
🍹 Look for lower alcohol or 0% alcohol options, or dilute drinks with plenty of ice and soda water.
🍹 Avoid sugary mixer drinks with spirits. Soda water with wedges of citrus work well.
🍹 Pour smaller glasses and measure spirits.
