☀️With warmer weather brings fruity summer snacks 🐶🍉

It’s important to remember that not all fruits are safe for dogs.
Unfortunately, Halco recently found out the hard way after stealing some mango without realising it was the pip!
Luckily his mum was on to it instantly and called us immediately, we were able to assist him safely bring it up and return to being the cheeky pup he is🏥💛

Here’s a reminder of what’s safe and not safe for your furry friends this summer:

✅ Safe in moderation:
🍉 Watermelon (seedless)
🍌 Banana
🍎 Apple (no core or seeds)
🍓 Strawberries
🍍 Pineapple

🚫 Not safe:
🥭 Mango pips (can cause blockages)
🍇 Grapes & sultanas (toxic)
🍒 Cherries (pits and stems are dangerous)
🍊 Citrus fruits (can upset tummies)
🍑 Stone fruits (watch for pits)

If your dog ever eats something they shouldn’t — like a fruit stone or pip — call us right away. Acting quickly can make all the difference 💙

🌞 Here’s to a safe, happy, and fruity summer — without any emergency vet visits!

✨ Meet Figgy the Whippet! ✨

This gorgeous girl was in for her spey surgery recently — and she was an absolute angel for her procedure 💖

Whippets are known for their gentle nature and lightning speed — fun fact: they can reach speeds of up to 56 km/h! 🏃‍♀️💨 That’s faster than most suburban speed limits!

Figgy’s taking it easy now (no zoomies for a few days 😉) while she heals.
Sterilisation not only helps prevent unwanted litters, but also reduces the risk of certain health issues like uterine infections and mammary cancer, keeping our furry friends happy and healthy for years to come 💕

Let’s all wish Figgy a smooth recovery — we can’t wait to see her back to her speedy self soon! 🐾

🐾 You asked — we listened! 🐶🐱

We’re excited to announce that Byford Veterinary Hospital now offers GapOnly! 🎉

That means we can help process your pet insurance claims on the spot, so you only pay the gap (the difference between the invoice and your insurance benefit).

We know vet bills can sometimes be stressful, so making this service accessible can help caring for your pets easier and more affordable. 💙

🐾❤️ Gus the Gentle Giant ❤️🐾

Meet Gus, a giant softy who has shown us all what true resilience looks like. 💪

After battling a with a suspicious lump near his ankle that left him limping, sore, and not quite himself — even with the best medical management — Gus and his family made the tough but loving decision to go ahead with an amputation.

And what a transformation it’s been! 🌟

Without his painful leg holding him back, Gus has rediscovered his spark — he’s back to running around the park, chasing after his little human best friend, and living life with that big goofy grin we all adore 🐶💨

We’re so proud of this big, beautiful boy and so happy to see him thriving again — proof that sometimes losing a limb means gaining a whole new lease on life.

🌸🕊️ It’s Baby Bird Season! 🕊️🌸

As the weather warms up, you may start to notice more young birds on the ground — and it’s natural to want to help! ❤️ But did you know that not all baby birds need rescuing?

During spring, many fledglings (young birds with feathers) are learning to fly.
These little ones often spend a few days on the ground while their parents continue to feed and watch over them. It’s a normal and important part of their development! 🐣✨

Here’s what you can do if you find a baby bird:
🔹 Observe first— is it injured or in danger?
🔹 Feathered and hopping around? Likely a fledgling! Keep pets and people away and give it space.
🔹 No feathers and can’t hop? It’s a nestling — try to place it back in the nest or nearby safely.
🔹 If you’re unsure or the bird appears hurt, give us a call for guidance.

Let’s work together to keep our wild feathered friends safe this spring — A gentle reminder that not all little ones need rescuing — some just need time and space to grow.

🐾✨ Byford Brave Patient Cora! ✨🐾

From a tiny 10-week-old dachy pup to the confident young lady she is today — we’ve had the absolute pleasure of watching Cora grow up right before our eyes! 💕

Cora recently visited us for her desexing procedure and she was an absolute superstar 🩷 She took her surgery and recovery in stride, charming everyone along the way with her wagging tail and brave little heart.

Her mum told us she was so excited to come back in for her post-op check — we think it’s safe to say she loves her vet visits just as much as we love seeing her! 🐶🌸

Swipe through to see Cora’s journey from her first puppy visits to her most recent big-girl milestone — we couldn’t be prouder of this sweet girl! 🥰

💙✨️ Happy Vet Nurses Day! ✨️💙

Today we celebrate our incredible Veterinary Nurses — the heart and soul of our clinic.

They’re the first ones in and the last to leave, making sure the laundry is clean, the clinic is stocked, phones and email enquiries are answered, supporting our vets through busy days and complex cases — they do it all with compassion and care.

Our nurses monitor and facilitate safe anaesthetics, keep a close eye on every heartbeat, and make sure every patient feels safe, loved, and comforted during their stays with us. They educate and reassure our clients, offering strength in moments of worry and kindness in times of grief.

They’re constantly learning, training, and growing, often sacrificing their own time to stay up to date with the latest procedures and best practices — all to ensure your pets receive the very best care.

🐾 To our Vet Nurses — thank you for your tireless dedication, your empathy, and your endless love for animals.
Our clinic wouldn’t be what it is without you! 🫶
