Eating healthy this winter is easy says dietitian Genevieve Melisi, Dietitians. "Eat the rainbow and aim for around 30 plant types per week. Our gut thrives on diversity, so while meat and three veg may work, mix it up! A range of colourful fruits and vegetables not only makes your plate look more vibrant and yummy, especially for kids, but they contain phytochemicals which have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. BOMI's resident development coach .com.au shares her second tip. Tip "Wield the power of Choice.

Sometimes we forget how immensely powerful we are! We are the creators of our reality by choosing what to think, feel, do and say in each given moment. These are our super powers that no one else has control over.

In particular, we always have the choice of which thoughts to pay attention to and identify with. Remember the past no longer exists and the future is made up, so if you catch yourself lost in future or past thinking, choose to bring yourself back to the present. This is the only moment where life exists – notice the inner freedom when you choose to live here.

A reminder - Don’t choose to believe all your thoughts! A great point to remind yourself: Just because I have a thought, doesn’t mean it’s true. Observe your thoughts, question your beliefs and try on curiosity instead of judgement, as you start to become a powerful observer of yourself.

Don't forget about fibre this winter (or ever) says Dietician Gen Milesi. Increasing fibre in our diet has plenty of benefits, from keeping us regular (on the toilet) as well as functioning at our best. Fibre is found in foods like whole grains, cereals, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. Fibre is great for our gut and also keeps us feeling fuller for longer, especially darker varieties like wholemeal breads, seeded varieties and brown rice and pasta.

While it's clear that more research is needed before a firm conclusion can be reached on cold water therapy, active recovery may be the best alternative for athletes looking to recover quickly. In fact, a 2017 study suggested that ice baths are not more effective than active recovery for reducing inflammation.

A 2016 research article determined that active recovery is generally still accepted as the gold standard, and arguably, the best way to recovery after hard exercise. Lower-impact workouts and stretches are still considered to be the most beneficial cool-down methods.
