Celebrating Cairns 150 Years
Today, we had a wonderful cake cutting ceremony to kick off next years 150th Anniversary celebration. It was a wonderful way to come together as a community, honour the city’s rich history, and celebrate the vibrant Cairns we know today.

This milestone reminds us of the incredible people, places, and stories that have shaped our city over the past century and a half and inspires us as we look forward to the next 150 years.
So proud to be part of this historic celebration!

Did you know today is International Men’s Day?
Observed on 19 November, this day recognises men who contribute to society through kindness, responsibility, and leadership. It also highlights the important roles men play in families, communities, relationships, childcare, and environmental stewardship.
The Himalayan Community Care Services is proud to share that one of our management team members, Mr. Tej M. Monger, served as a panellist at the event hosted the Salvation Army in Cairns. As a panellist, Mr. Monger shared his migration journey and his service to the community—both through his work at HCCS and through his volunteer contributions.
Among the many reflections he brought from the event, one powerful takeaway was the importance of empowering communities through their cultural heritage. As Mr. Monger expressed, if one does not know where they come from, they cannot truly know where they are going. This deeply resonates with the way we support our participants—with dignity, respect for their culture, and a strong sense of identity.

SIL Female Participant Vacancy (1:2 Ratio):
We are pleased to share that we currently have capacity for a Supported Independent Living (SIL) participant in one of our comfortable and centrally located homes.

About the Current Participant:
She is a 24-year-old woman who is independent, bubbly, and enjoys good company. Quiet, kind, and warm, she is welcoming and caring, valuing a calm and friendly environment. She enjoys spending time with her family, visiting her mother regularly, and catching up with her close friends. She also loves being around children and has no behaviours of concern.

Some of her favourite activities include:
Listening to music, Watching TV, Swimming at the lagoon, Walking along the esplanade, Going for drives and BBQs, Visiting her sister and spending time with family

Today, we celebrated Dashain with our participants and community members. It was a wonderful event filled with joy, laughter, and cultural connection.
Dashain is one of the biggest and most important festivals in Nepal, symbolising the victory of good over evil and the celebration of family, harmony, and community.
People from diverse backgrounds came together to honour culture, share traditions, and celebrate unity in our community. 🎉❤️

What a great honour it was to be hosted on The Empower Hour at Cairns Community Radio 89.1 FM!
A big thank you to the incredible host Joe and DJ Jesse for giving us the opportunity.
During the show, we shared about our services, especially the affordable housing and living options we provide for NDIS participants. In our group activities, all the participants absolutely love playing Carrom Board!

For those who may not know, Carrom is a popular indoor tabletop game that originated in South Asia. It’s played on a square wooden board where players use their fingers to flick a striker disc and pocket smaller discs (called carrom men) into the corner pockets — similar to billiards, but without cues.
