"1 in 4 deaths globally are caused by thrombosis. Yet most people don’t know what it is."

Think about that for a second.

One in four. That’s more than car crashes. More than most cancers. And yet—how many people do you know who talk about blood clots?

Most people don’t know the signs. The risks. Or that it could happen to them.

That’s what makes this so dangerous: silence.

World Thrombosis Day (October 13) exists to break that silence. To turn confusion into clarity. Ignorance into empowerment.

Because you can’t prevent what you don’t understand.

Today, you do.

Start by sharing what you’ve learned. Start by asking one person if they’ve heard of DVT.

Start now.

"He almost ignored it. Then he remembered a post he saw on October 13."

Marcus was on his third consecutive 12-hour shift. The back of his calf throbbed, but he chalked it up to fatigue.

Then he remembered World Thrombosis Day.
A week earlier, he’d read a story about a blood clot mistaken for muscle strain. It lingered with him.

He checked his leg. It was warm. Slightly swollen.
Something wasn’t right.

Urgent care referred him to the ER. They ran an ultrasound.
DVT — caught early.
That post? It saved his life.
You’re reading this now. It might save someone you know.

"Sitting all day shouldn’t be a death sentence."
But it can be — if you're unaware of the risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

October 13 is World Thrombosis Day — and it’s time to see your daily habits through a new lens.

Desk jobs. Long flights. Post-surgery recovery. Birth control. Dehydration. All increase risk.

Blood clots don’t discriminate. They hide in routine. Until they strike.

Think about it:
How often do you sit for more than 2 hours without moving?

When was your last hydration break?

Have you been bedridden recently?

Your veins crave movement. They need flow.
This isn’t fearmongering — it’s your wake-up call.

"This is not about fear — it's about power."

Knowledge turns fear into action.
Every warning sign you learn, every post you share, every conversation you spark — becomes someone’s turning point.

October 13 isn’t just a date — it’s an invitation.
To take one small step:

➡️ Move every hour.

➡️ Ask your doctor about risk factors.

➡️ Recognise the signs: leg pain, swelling, warmth, shortness of breath, chest pain.

Laura’s story had a second chapter. Others don’t. But you’re here. Reading this. And that’s the beginning of hope.

"Everyday routines shouldn’t end in tragedy."

Sedentary work. Long drives. Flights. Streaming marathons. Surgery recovery. Birth control. Hormonal changes.
All common. All carry risk.

Blood clots form when circulation slows. Often deep in the legs, silent and unnoticed — until they dislodge.

A friend of mine — a healthy 28-year-old — developed a clot after a transatlantic flight. She brushed off the tightness in her leg. It nearly killed her.
This isn’t rare. It’s underdiagnosed.

That’s why World Thrombosis Day (October 13) exists — to shine a light on this hidden threat.

"She thought it was just leg pain. It almost cost her life."

October 13 marks World Thrombosis Day, a day dedicated to awareness of blood clots — a condition that silently claims 1 in 4 lives globally. It’s often misunderstood, underestimated, and tragically overlooked.

It started with a dull ache in her calf. Laura thought she pulled a muscle, maybe from sitting too long during a weekend road trip.

Two days later, she collapsed in her kitchen.
A clot had traveled to her lungs — a pulmonary embolism.

She survived — but only because she recognised something wasn’t right and sought help in time.

Blood clots can form without warning. They don’t care how old you are, how active you seem, or how healthy you feel.

But here’s the truth: Awareness saves lives. And you’re now part of that ripple.
