Wuchopperen is proud to have Nichole Levers, Manager Children and Family Services, contributing as part of the organising committee for the Cairns Early Years Conference, 21–22 May 2026.

The early years are where everything starts. It is where children build their sense of safety, connection and belonging, and where families are supported to grow strong.

This conference brings together people working across health, education and community services, creating space to learn from each other and strengthen how we walk alongside families in those early years.

Behind the scenes, the Early Years Committee has been meeting regularly, giving their time, knowledge and care alongside their everyday roles. It speaks to a shared commitment across the sector to do better, together, for children and families.

At Wuchopperen, this work matters. It reflects our focus on strong beginnings, strong families and strong communities.

Celebrating strong mums, strong families and the journey into motherhood.

Our Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP), also known as the First Time Mums Program, supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mums from pregnancy through to their child’s early years. Through regular home visits, guidance and support, the program helps mums build confidence, strengthen connection with their baby, and create healthy, positive futures for their families.

Afton and Tilly joined the program in 2024, each beginning their journey as first-time mums. After their bubbas were born, they met at a client gathering, formed a connection, and have supported each other along the way.

Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating their graduation together. A shared milestone filled with proud moments, tears of happiness and of course, cake.

Their home visiting team, Mel and Gail, have walked alongside them throughout their journey. From those early days through to now, building strong relationships not just within the program, but beyond it.

This is what AFPP is all about. Walking alongside families, building confidence, AFPP connection and strong foundations for the next generation.

Last Wednesday, Kunjur Men’s Health Collective and Wuchopperen Health Service brought men together for a workshop at Nintiringanyi Cultural Training Centre. It was a strong space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to share their stories about health, what keeps them strong, and what needs to be prioritised at the Men’s Health Summit.

Men spoke with honesty about shame, loss, responsibility, safe spaces, cultural health and more. Every story shared helps guide the Men’s Health Summit on 22–23 May at Dejarlis Function Centre, Cairns Showgrounds.

Big thank you to Kunjur Men’s Health Collective for walking with us, and to Nintiringanyi Cultural Training Centre for hosting us.

And congratulations to Wesley, who took home a deadly BCF fishing package.
