🌸💗Happy International Women's Day 🌸💗

Today A&K Support Services pause for a moment to honour the quiet strength carried in the hearts of women everywhere. Not only the loud victories that history records, but the gentle, unseen courage that lives in everyday life, the resilience of getting up again, the grace of loving deeply, and the bravery of becoming who we truly are. International Women's Day is not only about what women have achieved, though those achievements are extraordinary; it is also about the journey inward, the slow and beautiful unfolding of a woman discovering her own worth, the moment she realizes she does not need permission to stand tall in her life. To be proud of who we are is one of the most powerful things a woman can do. Pride not born of arrogance, but of self-respect. Pride that comes from surviving, learning, loving, and growing. Pride in the softness that does not make us weak, and the strength that does not make us hard. Women carry many seasons within them: tenderness, wisdom, creativity, fire, compassion. We nurture families, friendships, ideas, and communities. We hold space for others, yet we are also learning that we are worthy of holding space for ourselves. On this day, may every woman remember that her story matters. Her voice matters. Her presence in this world is not small or accidental. It is part of the great tapestry of courage woven by women across generations. So stand a little taller today. Smile a little deeper at your reflection. Why: It helps you understand your clients’ emotions, experiences, and challenges, allowing you to respond with genuine care rather than just ticking off tasks.

2. Active Listening

Why: Clients often communicate needs indirectly. Listening attentively helps you catch concerns early, build trust, and support them in a way that makes them feel heard and respected.

3. Patience

Why: People have different abilities, communication styles, trauma histories, and processing speeds. Patience reduces stress and creates a safe, supportive environment.

4. Reliability & Consistency

Why: Clients depend on routine and stability. Turning up on time and following through builds trust and reduces anxiety, especially for people with mental health or disability-related needs.

5. Strong Communication Skills

Why: Clear, simple communication avoids misunderstanding, promotes independence, and helps families, providers, and clinicians stay aligned.

6. Professional Boundaries

Why: Healthy boundaries protect both the client and the worker. They ensure the relationship stays safe, supportive, and ethical — not personal or emotionally blurred.

7. Problem-Solving Skills

Why: Support work often involves unexpected issues — transport delays, emotional escalations, cancelled appointments. Good problem-solvers keep the day running smoothly.

8. Adaptability & Flexibility

Why: Plans change. A good support worker adjusts calmly and keeps the client’s needs at the centre, not the inconvenience.

9. Encouraging Independence

Why: Support work is not about “doing everything for someone.” Encouraging independence builds confidence and supports long-term outcomes.

10. Respect for Diversity

Why: Clients come from all backgrounds. Respecting their culture, beliefs, and identities builds trust and ensures person-centred care.

Meet the face's behind A & K Support Services & find out a little about them and why they started AKSS 🧡💙💚💛💜

Arvin & Kristy-Annitta are passionate about supporting, caring and helping participants in our greater community reaching and achieving their goals.
Together we created AKSS after seeing first hand participants receiving ill treatment, lack of choice and control and both lack of inclusion & communication from other Service providers.
Our drive here at AKSS is to give participants the care they deserve & provide an exceptional service second to none.
Between both Arvin & Kristy, we possess an abundance of experience and knowledge in the care industry.
From being parents/step-parents to 5, grandparents to 10, caring & supporting children in care & upholding relationships with our past and present wonderful participants.

Kristy was born & raised in Brisbane, 1 of 7 children and comes from a vast background in several industries such as child safety, youth work & mentoring, beauty therapy, real estate and NDIS co-ordination. Kristy has recently obtained her Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Indigenous Cultural Awarness & Mental Health First Aid Training. Although Kristy believes knowledge is power, she also believes it's the hands on experience that is more valuable & teaches us more.
And finally but not least- Arvin was born in India, although has called & made beautiful Australia home for the past 6years. Arvin is 1 of 3 children, is well travelled & learnt an abundance throughout his adventures. He has also obtained a world of knowledge throughout his years especially when it comes to IT, hospitality, professional driving and all things agriculture. One of Arvin's favourite quotes he lives by is - "Continuous learning is the minimum requirement for success in any field." Therefore, Arvin is currently in the process of finishing & obtaining his diploma of community services.

It’s been a wonderful, fulfilling & busy period over the last few weeks. Reconnecting participants & their loved ones, bbq’s by the beach & spending time fishing with Mr B 🎣
We certainly love making the difference, creating magic moments & nothing makes us more happier than being able to watch the smiles, connection’s & excitement on each & everyone’s faces. 💗😃
