Iron deficiency is all too common for a lot of our athletes - get checked and let’s treat it to get you to peak potential!

Zara Walters felt tired, dizzy and unable to recover from training sessions — then she found out she was low in iron. It's a condition that often goes undiagnosed, especially in female athletes.

Welcome to the Sports Medicine family, Dr Will! See you at FNQ Sports Medicine & Cairns Hospital in 2026 🙌🏻

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, but it’s a fantastic Conference and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve felt very welcomed, coming from a rural place and not knowing anyone, apart from my two great bosses up in Cairns, and two Registrars that I’d met previously.

“The opportunity to present was also fantastic. I talked a little about the rural and remote work that we’re doing up in Far North Queensland and a little about my previous work up in the Torres Strait, and thinking about how we can implement Sports Medicine in the remote settings.”

- William Stockley, 2025 Dr Geoff Thompson Rural Scholarship Recipient.

It’s been terrific to have three of our 2025 Scholarship Recipients are here with us on the Gold Coast, experiencing the Registrars Conference, as well as the Annual ACSEP Scientific Conference and engaging with the College community.

Left to Right: William Stockley, Dr Geoff Thompson Rural Scholarship Recipient, Osita Isichei, ACSEP Indigenous Scholarship 2025, Pasifika Recipient, Bailey Lacey-Rameka, ACSEP Indigenous Scholarship 2025, Māori Recipient.

Upskilling at - just casually injecting some hormones (water) to my free-range chicken 🍗💉🩸👩🏼‍⚕️😂

Jokes! But yes, learning and practicing ultrasound guided injection techniques to add to the skill set for our patients. Handy to do at the time of consult for answers and then hopefully, immediate (or at least quick) benefits to get you back doing what you need to do 💪🏻

$1mil is not worth risking your health & integrity (not to mention law breaking) by taking substances that aren’t even approved for human use!

It will be a spectacle out of curiosity but it sets a poor example to our athletes and it’s amazing how often we are asked about peptides in sports medicine. Yes, they exist however, they are not regulated (we have no idea what actual ingredients are in them), not approved by TGA, there is no safety profile (Long term risks?) and yes, they are illegal in Australia (& banned in athletes who have antidoping tests too).

Sport Integrity Australia does not support the concept of the proposed Enhanced Games.

We remain committed to upholding the values of clean, fair, and safe sport, and reject any model that encourages or legitimises the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
