Tobias - Growing Against All Odds

Tobias - Growing Against All Odds Tobias contracted Meningococcal Septicemia at 4.5 months old. He survived, became an amputee, and continues to defy the odds.

His journey is a testament to resilience, family, community, and the will to thrive against all challenges thrown his way.

Therapy started very early for Tobias. And I will probably find many memories to remind us all of that as the years pass!

This particular one is a guide so that anyone that came into Tobias' space had the right rotation happening after his amputations had been completed. So important for pressure care, blood flow and keeping him comfortable.

He was still heavily dependent on a lot of meditations some adults won't have even touched in their lifetime. It was uncomfortable for him to be moved, but once he was in the new position, he relaxed and rested.

This guide followed us everywhere. And it wasn't the only one. I'll unpack some more over the coming months and be sure to share some throwbacks!

This one tugged at my heartstrings because look how tiny he was!?! πŸ™Š

πŸ‘‚πŸ½Hearing tests are NOT on Tobias favourites list... After a few failed attempts over multiple visits. Usually just for one ear... We managed to have his last one under GA while he was already there for laser!

πŸ‘‚πŸ½Results came today and we are so happy to hear that his hearing is fine!!! πŸ‘‚πŸ½
Now we know he's just like his older siblings and has selective hearing when he "ignores" us πŸ™ŠπŸ˜

Hey everyone!
Katie here and with a bit of a long post.
This is hard for me to even think about writing and knowing what to ask for right now... Thank goodness for good friends and chat gpt πŸ˜‚ we are in a rental situation atm...

After all we have been through, this is a bit of a kick in the guts when we are finally feeling some sort of normality finally being at home with the kids.

We’ve been given ONE WEEK to decide whether to sign a new lease β€” with a rent increase, new conditions, and only a 6-month term. Our current lease doesn’t end until the start of May, and we have here for 4 years. But we’re being asked to commit now or risk a Notice to Leave.
We have chosen to open the possibility of a new rental to ourselves. We are nowhere in a position to purchase or build. Wouldn't that be the dream!

After everything Tobias has been through, and our other beautiful kids, we have worked so hard to rebuild some stability. School routine. Therapy routine. Making life as normal as possible with our new world.

We understand landlords have rights. We understand the market is tough.

But we are asking β€” is there anyone who can help?

β€’ Does anyone know of accessible 4–5 bedroom rentals in the Northern Beaches of Cairns?
β€’ Are there any disability housing supports or advocacy services we should be contacting?
β€’ Has anyone successfully negotiated for a longer lease or periodic option in similar circumstances? Although, they have told us in the offer email this can't be an option.
β€’ Are there community contacts, property owners, or agencies who are compassionate in situations like ours?

We’re not looking for sympathy β€” just guidance, connections, or options.

Tobias needs wide doorways, accessibility space, and stability.

Moving isn’t just packing boxes for us β€” it’s equipment, modifications, transport, and a huge emotional shift.

If you have advice, contacts, or even just a share to widen the net, we’d appreciate it more than you know.
Thank you for walking beside us through this journey.

You all know we are big supporters (and clientele haha) of Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia πŸŽ‰

Did you know though, there are two massive events in the Cairns and Tropical Far North region that also support them?

We have decided to take part in both (family events) this year!

So, below are the two links to "Team Tobias" for Cairns Marathon Festival and Run Port Douglas πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ if you're thinking of joining, but unsure of what the day is about, pm me, join our team, or grab some friends and create your own!!

We are super excited to raise some awareness and some spirits but having our family join in these two significant events for Far North Australia!!!

Mum and I have been on another adventure to our second home!
This time we even made a day out at the strand for a nice walk in the breeze πŸ™ŒπŸ½

A couple more days visit before we head home 😁🏑

We've been very quiet over here.
Clearly not an "influencer family" for the socials πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ˜…
But, don't worry, we've been busy working hard!

Tobias is about to step up in the world of power and say goodbye to the kids chair! πŸ§‘πŸ½β€πŸ¦Ό

Watch this space!!!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

We are so blessed living where we do!
In a very last minute, "can we afford this? F**k no. Let's go!" moment, we booked the long weekend away with the kids in a little fishing town down the road!
Because it was so random and last minute, we didn't bother checking the weather πŸ˜… lots of heavy rain, nature walks, fishing, and pool chills were had and it was just what we needed to finish off the school holidays!
Thanks for having us
We can't wait to return.
