Turning 40 and even 50 can feel like a milestone that marks the beginning of decline for some—but in truth, it’s just the start of a new, powerful chapter. Your body may not recover as quickly as it once did, but that doesn't mean you're slowing down. If anything, this is the perfect time to ramp things up—especially when it comes to looking after your health and chasing your dreams.

Taking care of your health after 40 or 50 isn’t just about avoiding illness—it’s about investing in your energy, vitality, and long-term freedom. Strength training, walking, mobility work, and a solid sleep routine all add up to more than just a longer life—they give you a better one. Staying active boosts mental clarity, reduces stress, supports mood, and reminds you that you’re still capable of achieving great things.

And that leads us to mindset. You are never too old to chase your passion. Whether it’s starting a business, learning a new skill, competing in a sport, or traveling the world, age is not a barrier—belief is. The moment you decide you’re too old is the moment you start handing over your potential.

Movement is medicine, and purpose is fuel. Combining both builds a life that’s fulfilling, vibrant, and mentally strong. The gym, the mat, the ring, or the hiking trail can be your sanctuary. Not just for the body—but for the mind and soul too.

So if you're over 40 or 50, don’t buy into the myth that your best years are behind you. They’re not. You’ve got wisdom, grit, and time on your side. Stay strong, stay curious, and keep moving—because the second half might just be the best half.

If you need help or need a bit of motivation to kick you off on your health journey. Move it & Lose it has you covered

What Does It Mean to Be a Warrior Today?

The word warrior often brings to mind images of swords, shields, and ancient battlefields. But in today’s world, the battlefield has changed — and so has the warrior.

A modern-day warrior doesn’t wear armor. They wear discipline. They don’t march into physical war zones — they face internal wars: self-doubt, fear, laziness, addiction, trauma. The modern warrior wakes up every day and chooses to fight for their future, their health, their peace of mind, and their purpose.

Being a warrior today means showing up when it’s hard. It’s training when you’re tired. It’s eating clean when the junk food is calling. It’s saying no to your excuses and yes to your goals. It’s protecting your mental health, setting boundaries, and holding yourself to a higher standard — not for perfection, but for progress.

Warriors don’t wait for motivation — they create momentum. They don’t chase validation — they build self-respect. And when they fall, they rise stronger, scarred but not broken.

At Move It & Lose It, we believe everyone has a warrior inside. You don’t have to be the fastest or the fittest — you just have to be willing to fight for yourself. Every drop of sweat, every rep, every setback you overcome — that’s you, earning your armor.

In a world full of comfort zones and shortcuts, the warrior path isn’t easy — but it’s worth it.

So stand tall. Train hard. Live with purpose.

Because today, strength isn’t just about muscle — it’s about mindset.

Having suffered with this for over 10 years on and off I know how painful and crippling this can be. Sciatica is not a condition on its own, but rather a symptom of an underlying issue that affects the sciatic nerve. Some common causes include:

Herniated Disc: When one of the discs in your spine (vertebrae) bulges out or ruptures, it can press on the sciatic nerve, leading to pain. This is one of the most common causes of sciatica.

Spinal Stenosis: This is a narrowing of the spinal canal that can put pressure on the nerves, including the sciatic nerve.

Piriformis Syndrome: The piriformis is a muscle located deep in the buttock. If this muscle becomes tight or spasms, it can compress the sciatic nerve, causing sciatica-like pain.

Degenerative Disc Disease: As discs age and lose their cushioning ability, they can affect the nerves around them, causing irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.

Spondylolisthesis: This occurs when one of the bones in the spine slips out of position and pinches the nerve.

Pregnancy: The growing uterus can put pressure on the sciatic nerve, leading to sciatic symptoms in some women.

Injury or Trauma: A fall or injury to the back or spine may result in sciatica if the sciatic nerve is affected.

It can be manageable provided you are doing the right exercises to elevate the pain. A few of these exercises include

Piriformis Stretch
1.Lie on your back with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor.

2.Cross your affected leg over the other, placing your ankle on the opposite knee (like a figure-4 shape).

3.Gently pull the bottom knee toward your chest until you feel a stretch in your buttock and outer hip.

4.Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch sides.

Reps: 2-3 times on each side.

Knee to Chest Stretch

1.Lie on your back with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor.

2.Bring one knee up toward your chest, holding it with both hands.

3.Keep your other leg bent or straight on the floor, depending on your comfort level.

4.Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch sides.

Reps: 2-3 times on each side.

Cobra Stretch (Backbend)

1.Lie on your stomach with your hands placed on the floor beneath your shoulders, elbows bent.

2.Slowly press through your hands, lifting your chest and upper body off the ground.

3.Keep your elbows slightly bent and your hips grounded on the floor.

4.Hold for 20-30 seconds, then lower back down.

5.Reps: 2-3 repetitions.

General Tips:

Consistency is key: Aim to do these exercises daily but listen to your body and stop if you feel any sharp pain.

Perform each stretch slowly and gently to avoid straining the muscles.

Consider warming up with light movement, like walking, before doing the exercises to avoid injury.

If you experience any significant discomfort or your symptoms worsen, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare provider or physical therapist for guidance on your treatment and exercise plan.

What we say & What we do are two different things. It seems like when it comes to one's health & exerciseing majority of people will make excuses on why they can not do it. Everything from "I don't have time" or "I can not afford a gym" to " I will wait until the moon lines with the sun" etc. They live as if they have a abundance of time and that is definitely not the case. We will never know when our time is up but we need to operate as the best version of ourselves today and cherish our time and health. So if your putting off exercising and going to the gym I would urge you to reconsider because time and health is our greatest asset
