Healing post-surgery. This is not a blanket protocol but by sharing how I'm supporting my own healing journey maybe someone you know will benefit from it. In every condition you can justify A TONNE of supplements but I focus on the biggest bang with the fewest supplements because who likes taking 20 different tablets, right? I'll post a progress shot in the comments so the ones with weak stomachs can avoid 😉
✔️ Intermittent Fasting with the occasional 24hr fast. Evidence supports fasting as accelerating wound healing and hastening recovery from trauma to other organs and tissues. This does however, reduce your nutrient intake so...
✔️ Good Quality Multivitamin to plug those gaps and...
✔️ Extra protein in whatever I do eat or drink. Whey in my chia pudding, collagen in my drinks, every meal with quality meat products and eggs as snacks and greens, greens, greens!
✔️ Extra zinc. Zinc is the 'mortar' between the protein 'bricks'. All of our tissues are proteins. Even bone contains collagen.
✔️ Probiotic to counter the unwanted effects from the very welcome effects of antibiotics in preventing infections which complicate repair
✔️ Tocotrienol. One of the most antioxidant vitamins we have with multiple effects and functions. Chosen in this case because evidence supports wound healing and the generation and repair of small blood vessels. I'm using Designs For Health Annatto-E.
✔️ Gotu Kola. There's mixed results with topical and internal use but it's not expensive as a tincture and isn't adding to my baseline of 7 capsules which is reaching my limit...
✔️ Silicon patches. I was sceptical but the differences between day 8 and 11 were largely due to those patches - highly recommend! I'm using the Elastoplast brand and attempted to purchase a cheaper product online but it was much lower quality.
✔️ Kava and other herbs as required to assist with stress and sleep. I always use herbs that are standardised for the bits that give them their good effect.
✔️ Rest wherever possible. Outside if I can, where I can close my eyes and hone in on my other senses, keeping the wounds covered so as not to risk infection or sunburn.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this same protocol for others - like I said, everyone's circumstances are different. If you or your loved one would like some advice with recovery from surgery or a procedure, put them in contact with me (I'll be in on Friday to adjust my calendar).
