Why are our glutes so important?! ๐Ÿค”

We use our glutes in everyday activities (such as walking) and they are vital to the stability of our back, hip and knee joints. Our glutes can even be the cause of our ankle and foot pain- how crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Let's talk about lower back pain ๐Ÿ‘‡

As physios, everyday we hear our patients tell us that their lower back is "out of alignment", or that they have "slipped a disc" and therefore it is not safe to bend or extend their back... how scary to think!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

But let's challenge this thinking... ๐Ÿค” Our spines are designed to be strong and withstand large amounts of forces! Our backs stay strong and healthy when we expose them to appropriate strength training, movement and even simple cardio exercises such as walking ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

So when patients have this thinking of something is "out of place", we as physios think about the science behind it all:

Life style and health, biophysiology, emotions and mood, thoughts and behaviour, genes, previous experiences, social factors, culture...

There is more to back pain then it being a muscle or a joint problem. It's like your general health- if you don't eat well, sleep enough or minimise the amount of stress in your life, your body will start to feel the affects of it! ๐Ÿค’

We love to really be thorough when assessing lower back pain and symptoms. We like to not only treat the symptoms of pain and stiffness that was see all too often, but to dedicate ourselves in treating the cause and minimising future episodes of disability and pain ๐ŸŒป
