Hard to remember at times but having empathy for your child on days where they are more emotional or tired will reduce negative behaviour faster than joining them in their overwhelm.
If you want to learn strategies to reduce your child's behaviour or keep yourself calmer as a parent, contact us now to book in for a consultation.
You know that one child that just pushes your buttons?
They just seem to really know how to get you to lose it.
They are incredibly emotional, often driven by anger and frustration and their melt downs are epic.
We all know the importance of unconditional love in our children's lives, but how can we love this behaviour unconditionally?
The answer lies in looking for the quality in them that is driving the behaviour and helping them see for themselves how they can use that quality in more positive ways.
This quality could be a stubborn streak, a sensitivity, a quickness to get angry and lash out.
I know from personal experience with my own children how hard it can be to see their strengths amidst the carnage of the tantrums and melt downs but it is possible.
How do you keep strong boundaries whilst still showing your child that you love them unconditionally?
Here at Ocean Grace, we offer the Circle of Security Parenting program, which is based on 5 decades of research into attachment theory.
This program will not only teach you how to understand and respond to your children's behaviours but it will also teach you how to reduce and prevent them in the longer term.
This course is offered one on one, for couples or small groups.
Do you feel anxious each time your child starts to tantrum?
Do you find yourself giving in to them just to prevent the next outburst?
Sometimes children's emotions can trigger strong reactions in us.
Understanding why this happens and how to not only manage our own emotional responses but theirs too is the first step in building emotional resilience in your child, yourself and your family.
In just a few sessions we can teach you how to do this for your family.
Ocean Grace is offering an Empowering Mum's Group, that will be offered multiple times each term.
This first session will focus on Managing Difficult Behaviours and will support you to:
Understand your child’s behaviourReduce difficult behavioursCreate stronger connections
These sessions will be run by Ocean Grace Director, Michelle Bowyer - Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over 20 years experience working with children and families. Michelle is Mum to 3 teenagers, including one set of twins.
This is also an opportunity to meet other, like minded Mum's and find your tribe.

Ocean Grace - Parenting, Behaviour and Relationship Counselling
We all would like to parent in a way that is true to our values and beliefs, but sometimes we can get caught up in the crazy, busy life of raising children today. We offer:
Individual counselling for adults and children
Relationship and family counselling
Parenting programs for individuals, couples and groups
Information sessions for schools, groups and professionals
Training for teachers, carers and other professionals
Ocean Grace was founded by Michelle Bowyer and named after her families love of living near the ocean and its calming effect on their children, and after her daughter Grace whom she lost during her 5th month of pregnancy. Ocean Grace is her daughters legacy that teaches us to cherish our children, overcome our fears and follow our dreams.
