World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2025.
Where did it go!?! Lol 😆
Not some well thought out post here - just some honest thoughts to share after I managed to make a little reel...
And I'm never one to play by the rules anyway, so here it is well and truly after WBW has come to a close 🫣

I started WBW celebrating another lap around the sun and reflecting on my breastfeeding journeys that have been filled with so much grief and SO much joy.

Thinking about WBW as it ended Thursday, we were faced with an emergency visit, head injury and sutures for a little person which threw the timeline out🤦🏽‍♀️
And geez did I wish I could have offered a BF to help my not-so-little person in pain!

The privilege I have...
To have succeeded with IVF.
To have had such euphoria birthing my beautiful children safely, confidently, with choice and love surrounding me.
To have had the right to autonomy and medical care to choose a TFMR which was the most devastating but right decision for our family.
To have taken time from paid work to breastfeed and care for my children as I choose...
The list could go on...

And whilst my journey has been far from smooth I am acutely aware of my privilege and blessings and the fact that women and children everywhere do not get these basic rights. It breaks my heart.

Professionally I see it every week... women not meeting their breastfeeding goals due to a lack of adequate and or timely support from care providers and societal beliefs and pressures.

We have such a long way to go for the cultural change that is needed so that breastfeeding is valued and women's contributions are more highly regarded.

To those of you who are in the thick of breastfeeding lows or to those who did not reach their breastfeeding goals, I hope you can celebrate the glimmers and your wins on your journey because the way you feed your baby does not define you...
I see you.
I send you love.
Be kind to yourself❤️

Happy International Day of the Midwife ✨️

On this International Midwives Day, I think about the many transformational moments in my life professionally as a midwife and personally being so warmly supported by some incredibly beautiful midwives with my own birth experiences.

There is just SO much love I have for all things midwifery and the reason I started private work, prioritising women's needs and truly supporting their education.
Also, for my own needs as a midwife, as wife and a mother.

However, as I continue to reflect each year on my role in the public system, whilst it gets harder in some ways to keep going, it is also so easy to continue with each AMAZING midwife I meet and learn from. Every day, my current team supports women in such a beautiful way, advocating and striving to be the light in a broken system.

The midwifery crisis HAS to be fixed and I have not lost faith that it will be.

Midwives deserve better.
Women deserve better.
Babies deserve better.

Midwives make a difference.

Midwives truly matter.

Are you pregnant in your first or second trimester and looking for education and connection with other mums?

Continuity of care is always the desirable option for pregnancy, especially with a midwife.
But for the many women who aren't afforded the opportunity for continuity with their care provider, WHAT IF...

If you could have education and connection with a midwife, IBCLC, child & family health nurse from the beginning of your pregnancy through to postpartum and beyond?

WHAT IF you could meet other women during your pregnancy and build your community that continues into postpartum?

Coming soon, you can have the education and continuity you deserve whilst building your community with other women.

Gaining knowledge in pregnancy helps you be confident and prepared to advocate for yourself.

Your support team should lift you up and have your back, and your belly 😉 no matter what...
I'd love to be a part of your team!

Welcome to Calmbirth with Natalie

I am a Registered Midwife (RM), Child and Family Health Nurse, and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and have worked with women and their families for 16 years.

My partner and I attended Calmbirth® prior to the birth of our baby, and despite already being a midwife, I found it a valuable learning experience. The Calmbirth® knowledge and skills, in particular learning how the mind-body connection affects birth, increased my trust in my body, and enhanced my partner’s ability to support me throughout labour and birth. Welcoming our child into the world was such a calm and joyful adventure, and it is my wish that every couple could experience this kind of empowering birth.

My personal experience with Calmbirth®, and the passion I have for guiding couples through pregnancy, birth and into the early years of parenthood, are the reasons why I became a Calmbirth® Educator. I believe that how you and your partner prepare for the birth of your baby is the most important factor in creating a positive birth experience, and a smooth transition into becoming a family.

Whilst fear is an understandable emotion surrounding pregnancy and childbirth, Calmbirth® can ease your anxiety by helping you to understand how the normal birth process can be supported, how to maximise and feel confident in your body’s abilities, and how to have a positive birth, no matter how your journey unfolds. The skills that you and your partner will learn from Calmbirth® are not just for labour and birth, but they are skills for life s.
