Team Xmas dinner last night at Infuzions in Cammeray. Support local as they say. Thanks to this great team for their professionalism in practice and good humour when appropriate this year. We are never all in the same place at the same time so dinner is always special. Kang Ja unable to attend but with us in spirit. Some hilarious stories being shared last night. Our acupuncturist Marina has just returned from Vietnam after a fulfilling two weeks offering her time and expertise doing acupuncture volunteer work.

Along with 12 other acupuncturists from around the world, the cohort’s makeshift clinic was a large room at a Buddhist Temple just outside of Ho Chi Minh City. Amongst those being treated were Vietnamese monks, their families and surrounding villagers.

Marina said; "It was a beautiful experience and was much appreciated by the recipients."

When is a massage a massage? When is it not? Cammeray Massage treatments are often a vital part in clients wellness protocol yet, when the word 'massage' is used to describe it, the type of treatment is often misunderstood by the uninitiated. To the point where some clients will tell their boss or friends they are seeing the 'physio', rather than say they are "getting a massage" to avoid the jibes! (Not to mention the odd phone calls we get sometimes...)

This is a battle all Remedial Massage therapists have had to deal with and worthy of a short novel in explanation, but we won't go there now other than to say; the use and promotion of the term 'Remedial Massage' was meant to become the defining label for legitimate therapeutic massage treatment by a trained health professionals. Poor management by industry associations over the last 30 years meant it didnt, so here we are.

Anyhow, there's a reason Remedial Massage Therapists are recognised by health funds. We have to go through Diploma level RTO training and have to remain current by doing so many hours of continuing education each year.

You can still close your eyes and you can even relax in most cases (it enhances the therapeutic benefits and effectivness of the treatment). You can chat, or not. We can discuss goals and outcomes from the previous treatment, and we can even review what might not be working for you and refer you to another health professional in the local area if need be.

Remedial Massage; its not a sequence of strokes. A true Remedial Massage must have
a/ Communication between the therapist and the client as to the symptoms experienced.
b/ An assessment by the therapist both physical and verbal, and then
c/ An approach to treatment that the therapist (based on their training and experience) thinks will help the clients problem.
