🌎International Day of People with Disability♿️

📆Today, we honour the strength, brilliance and lived experience of people with disability not as an afterthought, not as a checkbox, but as the heartbeat of why we show up every single day.

🔆This day isn’t about awareness alone.
🔆It’s about action.
🔆It’s about equity.
🔆It’s about making sure people with disability have the choice, control, dignity and opportunities they deserve not someday, but right now!

At BETTAccess, we’re proud to walk beside our Participants, their families and their networks with the values that built us:

💬Because inclusion isn’t a theme.
💬It’s a practice.
💬A commitment.
💬A promise.

Today we celebrate:
💜Voices that have been silenced & are now rising.
🧡Lived experience that rewrites systems.
🩵Communities that hold each other with compassion &strength.
🤍Every person’s right to shape their own story.

To our Participants: you teach us more than any manual ever could 🧠📚
To our staff: your heart, grit and integrity create safe spaces every single day 🦺🗣️
To our community: thank you for standing with us in dismantling barriers, amplifying voices and championing real inclusion 🏘️ 🤝

Here’s to a world that sees ability in every form and builds with everyone in mind 🫶🌏

🌟 MELBOURNE WEEKEND RECAP - Frozen fingers, giant food and airport celeb spotting 🌟

Last weekend we took some of our participants and staff on a little adventure down to Melbourne for the Disability Expo… and honestly? ICONIC.

The chaos started early when the boys spotted Anthony Mundine at Brisbane Airport & absolutely refused to let him walk past without a photo. Peak confidence, peak energy. 😂🔥

Then Melbourne greeted us with weather so cold it slapped us straight in the soul. Queenslanders were not built for 9 degrees but we survived with: 🍽️ A 1kg chicken parmigiana (yes, you read that right) 🥨 Delicious pretzels☕ Enough hot drinks to power a small village

In between the food and shivering, everyone had an incredible time exploring the Expo, trying new things, learning, chatting, connecting and just living their best adventure-weekend lives.

Trips like this hit different! Community. Confidence. Belly laughs. New experiences & memories our crew will be talking about for ages. 🧡✨

✨ Late post but worth it! We had such a lovely time at the NDIS provider Christmas party..good vibes, good people and plenty of laughs ✨

New connections were made, we learnt a lot and we’re feeling genuinely excited about the new partnerships taking shape. It’s always inspiring to be surrounded by people who care deeply about the work we all do. 💚✨

Here’s to collaboration, growth, and showing up for each other; on and off the clock. 🎄🤝💫

🌟 DISABILITY ACTION WEEK 2025 🌟
📆 23 Nov – 30 Nov

At BETTAccess, this week hits close to home, because connection, communication and creating are literally the backbone of the work we do every day.

💜We don’t just “navigate” systems.
🧡We walk beside people.
🩵We bridge gaps.
🤍We fight for clarity, for access, for dignity and for the kind of support that actually changes a person’s day-to-day life, not just their paperwork.

This year’s theme says it all:
💬 Communicate — clearly, honestly and with respect.
🤝 Connect — with community, with culture, with the right supports.
🎨 Create — opportunities, pathways and a future that feels like it belongs to YOU.

BETTAccess isn’t just a service it’s a movement built on choice, control, culture, and connection.
We’re proud to stand with people with disability across Queensland this week and every week.

From our team to our participants, families and partners:
✨ Thank you for trusting us to walk this journey with you.
✨ You deserve access — not obstacles.
✨ You deserve community — not confusion.

🙋🏼‍♀️Meet the face behind BETTAccess Empowered Supports — Jo.

The heart-on-sleeve, ADHD-fuelled, quirky-as-hell advocate who refuses to let the NDIS feel cold, confusing or corporate.

Jo strives to make the system human again with compassion, clarity and a worldview built on dignity, choice and genuine connection.
She lead with guts, grit and way too many colour-coded calendars… but hey, it works.

💜People first.
🧡Heart always.
🩵Advocacy every damn day.

If you’re here for empowerment, honesty and support that actually supports welcome. You’re in the right place. 💛✨

Sometimes I wish the “Decision Makers” could sit in the passenger seat with me.. front row, no filter and really see what this job is.
🧩Not the spreadsheets.
🧩Not the line items.
🧩Not the “reasonable and necessary” checklist.
But the human stuff we carry every single day.
📋I wish they saw that support coordination isn’t just emails and referrals; it’s crisis navigation, late-night phone calls and stitching together hope where systems fall short.

🪫I wish they saw the parents who are exhausted but still fighting.
🥺The participants who are doing their absolute best in a world that wasn’t designed with them in mind.
🔑The support workers who show up heart-first.

🤍I wish they saw that the “evidence” we submit isn’t words on paper it’s lived reality.
🤍It’s the meltdown in the carpark.
🤍It’s the person who hasn’t slept for 48 hours.
🤍It’s the parent trying to be the case manager, the advocate, the therapist, the nurse, the scheduler… all while holding their family together.

🩶I wish they saw how much of our job is actually translating the system…Because let’s be honest half of the plan is written in ancient hieroglyphics.
🩶And families come to us because they’re drowning, not because they’re “non-compliant.”

🖤I wish they saw the emotional load.
🖤The advocacy exhaustion.
🖤The “I know this person deserves better; how do I make the system hear them?” moments we carry on repeat.

I also wish they saw the wins too!
💜The first shower someone takes independently.
💜The safe home we helped secure.
💜The young person who finally meets workers who get them.
💜The mum who cries tears of relief instead of fear.

I wish they saw the reality: Support Coordinators are not luxuries we are lifelines. We’re the bridge between what the NDIS intends and what actually lands in real people’s lives. We’re the ones holding the map when everyone else is lost. We’re translators, negotiators, fire-putter-outers, connection-makers and professional hope-restorers.

And honestly? I wish the “Decision Makers” saw that if they understood the reality of support coordination, the whole system would run smoother, safer and more sustainably.

👉Because behind every report, every request, every “functional impact statement,” is a human being trying to build a life and we’re just trying to make sure they get the chance to do it🧡

Why I Became a Support Coordinator??

I didn’t choose this work because it was easy.
I chose it because people deserve someone who won’t give up on them… even when the system feels impossible.

Support Coordination cracked something open in me: that fierce, protective instinct to make sure people aren’t just in the NDIS…but actually supported by it.

I became a Support Coordinator because:
➡️ People need a guide they can trust
Someone who can translate the jargon, calm the chaos and walk beside them through every curveball.
➡️ Choice & control isn’t a slogan.. it’s a human right And I refuse to let anyone forget that!
➡️ Everyone deserves a pathway forward
Not a maze. Not a fight. A pathway. Clear, empowering, and centred around their independence.
➡️ Connection is my superpower
I thrive in the heart-work; the honest conversations, the tough moments, the breakthroughs, the “you’re not alone” part.
➡️ I believe in building BETTer systems by building BETTer relationships
One participant, one goal, one win at a time.

Branching out and creating BETTAccess Support Coordination, that purpose only gets louder.
We don’t just coordinate the plan we empower the person. We connect, develop and grow alongside them.
Because independence isn’t a destination.
It’s a journey and nobody should walk it alone.

BETTAccess – Pathway to Independence
Empowering Accessibility. Everyday! 💜🧡🩵🤍
