How magical is this flower?!
There really is something about the colour blue in plants ✨
If you havent already met, allow me to introduce you.
'Clitoria Ternatea' (BEST named flower ever, the name is due to its shape 😉)
This plant is also known as butterfly pea, blue pea, asian pigeonwings the list goes on.
I am so delighted to finally have these growing in the garden. They are an Asian tropical vine, and so I am pretty amazed I got them to grow here in SA. It just goes to show you should always try your luck particularly in the garden.
I could just buy the flowers already dried and ready to use, but if you know me, you'll know that doing things in a fully circular way is what truly brings me joy. I love to grow my own plants for eating, drinking, formulating and crafting... wherever possible 😊
I love making a magical tea brew with the flowers. It's the most beautiful shade of blue, and if you add a squeeze of lemon it will turn pink before your eyes due to the pH change.
I also love to use these in formulating. Not only to add some visual colour therapy to my products, but this flower is high in Proanthocyanidin which assists in collagen and elastin stimulation. WIN WIN! It can also be used to promote hair growth due to its Bioflavanoids. Such a clever little flower.
Stay tuned for some blue formulations coming up.. once I've harvested enough. Ive got 6 at the moment 🤣😂
She did only just start flowering so I'm sure the best is yet to come 🤞
