I want to share a little honesty behind Mimi Blankets today.
I try to keep things positive on here, but yesterday was one of those days that reminds us just how fragile life can be. Sofia required CPR at school and was taken to Emergency. Writing those words still doesn’t feel real.
Sofia, our Mimi Star, has a rare neurological disorder called Rett Syndrome. It’s often described as having autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s and epilepsy all in one person. For Sofia, it also means abnormal breathing, being non-verbal, using a wheelchair — and seizures that come without warning.
Lately her seizures have been increasing in both frequency and length. They don’t give us any notice. She simply stops breathing. Her lips turn blue. Her little body goes limp. There is nothing that prepares you for watching your child go through that.
And yet… she continues to amaze me.
Today, she is back at school, smiling, surrounded by her beautiful friends and supportive teachers. Her strength humbles me every single day.
I’m trying to step back into work and focus on Mimi Blankets, but it’s hard when the last 24 hours are still replaying in your mind. This is our reality. Life is hard. Parenting a child with complex needs is hard. Running a business is hard. And doing both together can feel overwhelming at times.
But Sofia’s determination, her resilience, her quiet courage — that’s what keeps me going. She is the heart behind everything we do 💜
