Congratulations on your new e-bike purchase Marisa!

Ohhh 😮 this is a fun one….. ✨

It’s been a long time coming….. 🚲

After 4 years, I finally took the plunge and brought an e-bike!!!

The first and last time I rode an e-bike was back in 2022 when I borrowed one through the e-bike library (a fantastic initiative run by SEE-Change, supported by the ACT Government). It’s such a brilliant program, giving anyone in Canberra the chance to borrow a bike and see what it’s all about before making the purchase.👍👍

Fast forward to now… and I have finally made the commitment 🚲 😄

Not being a bike rider generally, it’s going to be a huge learning curve- but my aim is to commute to work in the city when I can (with the side aim of adding in some exercise to my non-existent exercise schedule- amazing what some new year inspo can do 💁‍♀️).

The ABC has published a good article about what a street legal ebike is compared to illegal e-motorbikes.

Hopefully it will help to educate the general public.

I’m worried that Governments will introduce a blanket ban on all ebikes.

Meet Marty: our Canberra Centenary Trail maintenance officer. 👷

Just like roads and cycle paths, the Canberra Centenary Trail needs ongoing maintenance and improvements – and Marty knows this 138-kilometre walking and cycling route like the back of his hand. 🙌

👋 Make sure to give Marty and his colleagues a wave if you see them mowing the trail corridor, clearing fallen trees, installing damaged or stolen signs, renewing trail surfaces, cleaning out drains or scoping improved alignments. And if you see a section of trail that needs improvement, chances are it’s already on Marty’s radar. ✅

With the weather warming and the wildflowers blooming, 🌼 spring is the perfect time to explore the trail – either by foot 🚶 or mountain bike. 🚲 We’ve even updated our trail maps (with Marty’s help, of course) to give you the smoothest possible adventure. 🗺️

This Maggie season I’ve created the “ultimate” swooping protector.

3 colourful ribbon flags with bird scare tape mounted close to the bicycle seat. It’s mounted and held together with 3d printed brackets.

To top it off I’ve got the pie proof helmet with da brim to protect from pecking.

So far this week it has resulted in zero swoops. More than likely because the magpies are laughing themselves silly.

But now that I’ve said that, I’ve probably jinxed it 😬
