Ever wondered how we put those little elastics on your braces? 👀

We start by gently removing your old elastics, then use a tiny tool to stretch and place each new coloured one around the brackets.

And no, they’re not just for decoration!

There are actually two types of elastics we use:
• Individual ligatures (O-rings) - the single coloured elastics placed on each bracket
• Power chains - the connected elastic line used to help close gaps

Both are essential for keeping your wire in place and helping your teeth move safely and smoothly into position - while the colours are the fun part that let you show off your style.

You can choose a new colour at every visit, from classic clear to bold and bright shades.

Here are 4 things that can slow down your treatment — and how to avoid them.

😬 1. Missed Appointments
Every adjustment matters! Frequent rescheduling or missing visits delays your progress and can extend your treatment time.

🦷 2. Not Wearing Elastics or Aligners as Directed
Your elastics and aligners do the heavy lifting. Inconsistent wear is the biggest reason treatments fall behind — stick to the schedule your orthodontist gives you.

🍬 3. Broken Brackets or Lost Aligners
Crunchy, sticky foods can break brackets, and misplaced aligners stop tooth movement altogether. Follow your care guidelines to keep everything moving smoothly.

🪥 4. Poor Oral Hygiene
Inflamed gums and plaque buildup can force treatment pauses. Brush, floss, and keep everything clean so your teeth can keep shifting as planned.

Last Friday, our Embrace Team had their annual retreat day.

The .com.au organised and facilitated the day, leading the workshops, preparing the activities, and guiding the discussions to strengthen team cohesion and support our professional development.

Here’s what the day looked like:
🧊 We kicked things off with a lively icebreaker, followed by an engaging presentation from Rob and Dan.
🧩 Everyone completed their DiSC assessment, giving us an insightful look into how we work as individuals and as a team.
🦄 The afternoon took a creative twist with a unicorn-decorating challenge based on our DiSC profiles - surprisingly fun and engaging.🪓 And to top it all off, we wrapped up with axe throwing, the perfect mix of teamwork, friendly competition, and pure fun.

It was a great day, energising, meaningful, and an excellent way to strengthen our skills so we can continue providing our patients with the highest level of care and service.

From 2005 to 2025!

It was 20 years ago, in 2005, when Gemma first walked into Embrace Orthodontists. She was 10 years old and excited to begin her smile journey.
By 2009, she started her braces treatment, and we were by her side through every adjustment, every milestone, every step forward.
Fast forward to today, 2025. Gemma walks back through our doors, now 30, confident, radiant, and carrying the beautiful smile we helped create all those years ago. She’s here for retainers to protect all that hard work.

Twenty years later, she’s still choosing Embrace Orthodontists. Still trusting Dr Spiro. Still part of our family.
This is what we mean when we say we’re not just here for treatment - we’re here for life.
