Why I think ✨gratitude lists✨ *can* be bu****it and contribute to toxic positivity culture.
I think it’s easy for people to say “start your day with a gratitude list”, and it’s generally pretty easy to do…. So why do some of us still feel s**tty after writing these ever so popular gratitude lists?
Moods & subsequent manifesting are all about whatever energetic vibration you’re currently in. If you’re in a place of anxiety/unease/unrest, you want to shift your energetic vibration to a calmer, safer place like gratefulness; and so gratitude lists came to be.
BUT! What happens when gratitude isn’t the thing that launches you to your higher vibration? What if you’re only doing it because you think it’s what you’re meant to do because it’s what you see all over those ‘mY mOrNiNg rOuTiNe’ videos on TikTok? (my morning routine generally consists of 3 alarms and a rush out the door, so absolute power to those who really do start their days like that, but I ain’t buyin’ most of it)
So, you’ve written your gratitude list and you still feel like s**t. You start to spiral. You’re trying to do the things and remain positive and grateful but you feel… nothing. No change. You feed more and more into the lower vibrational state you were in before writing your list, and the universe sends that vibration right back to you. You get stuck in this downward spiral all because you tried to write a bloody gratitude list?!
Why?! Simple! Because gratitude may not be the thing that aligns you to your highest vibrational state - don’t do it because you see it on social media. Dance. Sing. Go for a run. Ma******te if you need to. Whatever makes YOU feel good - do that thing. It doesn’t have to be spiritual, it’s just has to switch your energetic vibration into a higher one so the universe can send you back more of it.
So next time you think you need to do your gratitude list, ask yourself if this will support you and raise your energetic vibration, or if you’re doing it because you think you should cause someone somewhere wrote one in their picture perfect morning routine.
*gratitude lists MAY work for you! And I love that and I love you, and I’m proud of you for working that out. This is for those of us (yes, me too) who felt they were broken when gratitude lists didn’t have the impact they wanted!
