Due to growth, we are looking for a casual counsellor who is available for some work throughout the week. Would love to give this opportunity to someone who is newly qualified/about to graduate as it can be to get that first job without experience.

The ideal candidate will have a great understanding of cognitive-based counselling modalities such as CBT, act and SFBT. While Remedy Therapy works with couples and males, the right counsellor will be willing to support a predominately female caseload managing various issues such as relationships, anxiety, depression and self esteem.

The essentials are:

▪️Must be Canberra based/willing to travel
▪️Membership with PACFA/ACA
▪️Bachelor degree minimum (or close to graduating)
▪️Availability in evenings initially, with a view to do Saturdays in the future

Benefits:

🔘 Above award pay
🔘 Flexible hours
🔘 Option to work from home
🔘 Opportunity to practice and develop your niche

In order to apply, please email me outlining your skills and strengths, as well as availability to Lauren@remedytherapy.com.au 😊

It is the turn of the avoidant attachment types this week We have all experienced the stereotypical commitment-phobe, that person who really can’t open up no matter what we do 🥹

And, unfortunately, it can be so attractive, especially to the anxious attachment types. The reason being is that they are so disinterested it creates a challenge. But, this doesn’t mean it needs to end badly if both parties can make it work 😍

Did you know that the emotional connection you have as a child with your caregiver can strongly influence your relationships in later life? 👨‍👩‍👦💑
One theory suggests that there are four different types, and you can either fit in one or two boxes. Understanding your attachment type can help you work out relationship issues, as well family dynamics and mental wellbeing 🏥

This is the first in four posts that describe the different types, and explains where they originate from 📚

During lockdown, Zoom was the only option for therapy sessions in some cases. Some clients, who were initially very resistant to the idea, have now grown to love it and it's become their go-to option.

Looking at our client base, there is no pattern with regards to age or gender either in terms of their preferences.

Remedy Therapy offers both face to face and Zoom sessions, but if you haven't tried Zoom then it might be worth giving it a go to see the benefits for yourself.

The latest blog post outlines some of the pros and cons

COVID-19 bought disruptions to many industries, including the health sector. As face to face appointments became inadvisable, many clinicians resorted to moving their practice to online video calling. Prior to the pande...

Crying is often seen as a sign of weakness, or something to be ashamed of 😢

But…. There are many health benefits to having a good cry, and let’s face it, it’s not usually voluntary anyway 🥺

Here’s some of the good reasons why crying can be a good thing…

The age old argument of who should do what is shifting thanks to changing work patterns. With some men opting to be stay at home dads while their wives head back to work, the line of division is blurred.

Who says we need to be perfect?
If you feel like it’s a struggle to keep on top of life, then give yourself a break ⏰

The likelihood is that you are being your own worst critic. Setting unreasonable expectations on yourself can lead to stress and anxiety🤕

One technique is to organise which tasks are more urgent and aim to complete these first. The rest can be negotiated to another time or date.
Having time to recharge and rest is important, and we risk letting life pass us by when going from goal to goal without stopping for a break 🙇🏻‍♀️

If this is something that you’re struggling with, and can’t get past, then reach out for some coping strategies. Our clients have seen great success in managing their self esteem and motivation.

The classic push pull cycle, also know as the elastic band. Are you stuck in this? 🔃

Usually it’s a case of one person vying for the other’s time, or one half of the couple not willing to be as emotionally open as the other 😞

What’s the cure for this? It can be a case of working with the “quieter” of the two to get them to communicate how they feel and what they need ⏳

Lots of people think couples therapy is just equal talking between the couple. Sometimes one person needs slightly more understanding and time than the other does ✨

The great news is that this is so common there are many techniques that can support you both to a better space ✅

Is your workplace causing you stress or anxiety? Maybe it’s not so much the work, but how you are managing stress? 😣

There are many things you can do to manage workplace stress, one of them is to actually leave the job if you need to. If you think it’s repairable though, try some of these:
✨Ask for help when needed - it’s okay to not be able to manage everything all the time on your own

✨Take your breaks. Leave the office, go for a walk, find a break ritual that works for you

✨ Set healthy boundaries with co-workers

✨Ask for the pay rise/promotion, rarely these things will just appear

✨Take a mental health day if required, a good manager will appreciate transparency

✨ Request open and honest feedback from your boss so you know what’s working
While work isn’t designed to be a recreational activity, it shouldn’t be so draining you have no energy for anything else.

At the weekend someone asked me why some people manage to cope with trying times while others don’t. My answer was resilience 💪

But what exactly does that look like? Most people have an idea of what resilience means, but not necessarily what it looks like in a person’s character.

To define resilience informally, it means the ability to bounce back. Some people have it naturally, others need to build it. The foundations of resilient people come from their emotional intelligence, their ability to take care of themselves physically and mentally, and their support network and social situation. It’s never too late to work on all or some of these areas, and it can also support the ability to overcome some mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression ✨

Social anxiety can be paralysing and can make life difficult. One client ended up leaving their job due to the fear of having to participate in meetings and presentations. Treatment involves recognising and changing negative thought patterns, and this should subsequently get rid of those nasty physical signs.
