Day 4 in and the prompt is dodge…
….which made me think of dodgems and how part of building resilience is knowing your limits and saying “cheers but I’m busy that day” to things you don’t want to do. Stepping out of the way of being roped in to things that make you unhappy is a good tactic.
May all your dodgems be successful and not bumpy!

Inktober Day 3: path
Life is full of choices, indeed I would suggest that the only way we know that we are living is because we are constantly choosing which paths to take.
Do I vote yes or no, do I take this comment to heart or let it go, do I choose to forgive or not, do I put my phone down and go outside, do I hug my friends every time I see them or do I keep all of my feelings locked up inside myself…one’s life is a path made up of the sum of all of these choices.
Where is your path taking you?

First day of October =
For the month of October I’m drawing daily and exploring the theme of resilience 🌸 today’s sketch prompt is dream… and as a psychoanalytic therapist I see dreaming as the playground of the unconscious. Are you noting your dreams down?

One for the psychotherapists…
I really enjoy the writings of Prof Brett Kahr: full time psychotherapist, part time analytic historian and writer

I devoured Coffe with Freud, and ❤️ his writings on Winnicott. This book is very different: it literally is a handbook on flourishing (not just surviving) as a psychotherapist from assessing one’s own sanity through to prospering, dealing with hours of being in the chair, nourishing colleagues, and even retiring and death!
Thought provoking and nourishing for the reader as is expected from such a Tavistock and Freud Museum alumni.
Highly recommended

Masterclass: Healing the Traumatized Self with Dr Ruth Lanius…what a wonderful way to finish the week at the Childhood Trauma Conference! Dr Ruth Lanius is a professor and psychiatrist and psychotherapist who is an expert in the neurobiology of trauma and PTSD. I loved this workshop and her demonstration of Deep Brain Re-orienting was inspiring…thank you Dr Ruth!

Made it all the way through! Australian Childhood Foundation’s 4th Childhood Trauma Conference has been an amazing experience: inspiring, thought provoking, and affirming! I hung out with some amazing people in between busy days and chatted to some incredible leaders in the trauma and therapy worlds.
I also appreciate my clients holding the space for me to have this week long break from our sessions 🌸 and my family too. Back in 2024 ❤️
