πŸ’• Ladies, Let's Talk: Breast Cancer Awareness πŸŽ€

Dear women of our vibrant CALD community in Canberra, we have an important invitation for you. Join us for a special Cancer Awareness Event in Canberra, where we'll be shining a spotlight on this health challenge that affect women of all backgrounds, but which we can combat with knowledge and regular screenings.

We understand that talking about these topics can sometimes feel uncomfortable, especially in certain cultural contexts. That's why we've created a safe, supportive, and culturally sensitive environment for this crucial conversation.

Let's just look at breast cancer. Did you know that 1 in 7 women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? And only 37% of women from multicultural backgrounds are taking part in breast cancer screening, compared to around 49% of the general population! But here's the good news – when detected early, the five-year survival rate is 91%. That's why our event is about educating you and ENCOURAGING YOU to take empowering ownership over your health through early screening.

But this event is more than just medical information – it's about empowerment. We'll have an inspiring talk from a breast cancer survivor from our CALD community. This brave woman will share her journey, from diagnosis through treatment and recovery, showing that there is hope and life after cancer.

Ladies, your health matters. It matters to you, to your families, and to our community. By attending this event, you're taking a powerful step towards protecting yourself and inspiring others to do the same.

πŸ—“οΈ Event Date: 23/11/2024
⏰ Time: 4-6 pm
πŸ“ Location: TBA

🌸 Cervical Cancer Awareness for the CALD Community 🌸 When was your last pap smear? Today it is called a Cervical Screening Test and if you are a between 25-74 years old, you should get yours done at least every 5 years. In Australia, cervical screening involves taking a swab of the va**na or cervix to look for HPV. HPV is an infection spread during sexual contact and is the cause of almost all cervical cancer. This can be done by a doctor, nurse or health worker, or by women themselves. And most clinics have the ability to have you seen by a female professional. We know that it can be challenging to engage with potentially culturally sensitive topics, but this is about your health. And the more important it is to talk and educate yourself about. Cervical screening is the most effective way to detect HPV early and prevent it from developing into cancer. However, while 68% of the general Australian population participates in screening, rates are significantly lower within multicultural communities. Our Cancer Screening Awareness event is an opportunity for you to learn more about the importance of cancer screening and how it can protect your health and family. You will receive expert advice on screening, get to listen to a vulnerable yet empowering personal story with cancer, AND get to celebrate the diversity of our community through vibrant dance performances. Event Details: πŸ—“οΈ Date: 23/11/2024 ⏰ Time: 4-6 pm πŸ“ Location: TBA (Free entry, with refreshments provided) This event aims to foster a more informed, empowered, and healthier CALD community in Canberra. There is also a Medicare rebate when you do get your cervical screening test performed. But always check with our doctor first. RSVP by 15/11/2023 to let us know that you are coming! Let us come together in support of health equity, prevention, and awareness. Early detection saves lives. 🌏❀️
