During Covid19 lockdown situation many of our older Australians spending more and more time inside due to strict government restrictions, it's very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle - both ways physically and mentally.
Elderly ppl may find it challenging adapting to these new lifestyle changes, but there are many different ways in which we can support the health and wellbeing of seniors during these hard times.
These include as below:
1. Embracing new technology experience -
isolation is one of the leading causes of depression for elders. Teaching our seniors how to use a computer and smartphone to acess FaceTime , zoom allows them to stay in touch with family and their loved friends.
2. Walk it out in fresh air -
to avoid feeling stuck indoors, elders in good physical condition are encouraged to walk several times a day. This not only helps the mind and body stay fit, but also helps release endorphins and ensure a daily dose of Vitamin D.
3. Sharpen the mind with different activities -
keeping the brain healthy and functioning properly is critical, so reading and writing activities are encouraged for our seniors, rather than watching TV. Journaling, drawing and adult colouring books are all a great option.
4. Develop a daily sleep routine - proper sleep is a building block for optimal health, so to ensure your senior loved one is getting enough sleep it's beneficial for them to go to bed at the same time each night and establish a regular bedtime routine. The better they sleep, the better they will feel everyday!
5. Finding new and old hobbies - now is a great time for elders to learn new hobbies they can do at home, or pick up a long-lost skill they may have lost over time.
For those who find themselves spending more time at home, or are isolated from loved ones, our in-home elderly care is a great solution for supporting our seniorsโฆ
