Another milestone to celebrate, 34 years.

Over the years, Mark has shown unwavering dedication and a strong work ethic throughout his time at Koomarri. He has worked across all Koomarri sites, spanning Belconnen, Fyshwick, and even in Garden Maintenance, always bringing consistency, reliability, and pride to everything he does.

Beyond his work, Mark is someone who brings a positive presence wherever he goes. He is thoughtful, approachable, and valued by all who have had the chance to work alongside him. The impact he has on those around him is clear, and he is truly appreciated by many. Mark shared that one of his favourite memories has been doing the mail runs, and he is also known for enjoying a well-earned beer after work.

To mark this occasion, we came together for a morning tea to celebrate Mark’s journey, sharing stories, reflecting on his time with Koomarri, and enjoying the moment as a team.

We are incredibly proud to recognise this milestone with you, Mark. Thank you for everything you have given over the past 34 years.

💵 Payroll rarely gets the recognition it deserves, but it plays one of the most important roles in any organisation.

Every pay cycle, Gracita works behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly, accurately, and on time. It’s a role that requires precision, trust, and a strong sense of responsibility, impacting every single person in the workplace.

Gracita brings a calm, reliable presence to what can often be complex and high-pressure work. Whether it’s resolving discrepancies or making sure every detail is right, she approaches it all with care and professionalism.

It’s easy to overlook payroll when everything runs well, but that consistency is exactly what makes it so valuable. Gracita, thank you for the work you do and the standard you uphold. It’s genuinely appreciated by all of us.

Outside of work, Gracita is also taking on an incredible challenge this month, completing 1,736 squats across March to represent the 56 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every day. If you’d like to support her and the cause, we encourage you to donate or share her fundraiser, every bit helps.

We also took a moment to learn more about the work that goes into payroll and the person behind it, so we asked Gracita a few questions:

Q: What’s one myth about payroll you’d love to debunk?
A: Payroll isn't just pressing a button! There’s a significant amount work involved behind the scenes, like applying the correct award interpretation, high attention to detail and problem solving.

Q: One thing you never start your workday without?
A: A good cup of coffee, it helps me to focus and get ready for the day

Q: If you weren’t working in payroll, what would you be doing?
A: I’d likely be in accounting within the not-for-profit sector. It’s an area I’ve always been passionate about and studied, and I’d love to contribute in a way that makes a meaningful difference.

40 years. What an achievement.

Across four decades, Kenny has brought his dedication and strong work ethic to a wide range of workplaces. From his time at Pack & Post to his current roles at the Treasury and the Department of Defence — along with many other roles in between — he has consistently shown commitment, reliability, and pride in his work.

More than that, Kenny is simply a beautiful person to be around, and anyone who knows him can attest to that. He is so kind, always warm, and deeply loved by everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside him. The joy and warmth Kenny brings is infectious; he has a way of making everyone around him feel instantly happy, appreciated, and cared for, leaving a lasting impression wherever he goes.

To celebrate this incredible milestone, we got together at Koomarri Central for a morning tea, sharing nostalgic chats and stories about the “back in the day” moments from Kenny’s career. Laughter, memories, and plenty of smiles all around.

We are so proud to celebrate this milestone with you, Kenny. Thank you for everything you bring to our community.

Ten years ago, Harry began his journey with us — and we’re incredibly grateful he did.

Over the past decade, he has become an integral part of our team, bringing consistency, skill, and genuine care to his work each day. It’s people like Harry who turn our values into action and help shape Koomarri into the organisation it is today. Reaching 10 years is a significant milestone, and one that reflects dedication, growth, and a strong commitment to our community.

We asked Harry to share some insight into his experience over the years:

What keeps you motivated after 10 years?
My team and my CEO, Nadine Stephen, always treat us like family. Being surrounded by passionate teammates and seeing the real impact of our work keeps things fresh. There’s always something new to learn, and that constant evolution keeps me engaged.

Describe your job in three words.
Challenging, rewarding, meaningful.

What advice would you give your “first day” self?
Be patient with yourself. Talk less and ask more questions. Listen and answer the relevant question, and trust that growth takes time. Say yes to opportunities, even the ones that feel a little outside your comfort zone.

Congratulations on 10 years, Harry. Thank you for your dedication, your professionalism, and the positive difference you make every day.

We’re excited to highlight the incredible work and dedication of one of our participants, Kheyrra, who has secured paid employment through our Customised Employment Program 🎉

Kheyrra joined the program at the end of 2022 and has shown steady growth, determination, and resilience throughout her journey. In mid-2023, she began work experience at the Hyatt, which successfully transitioned into open paid employment, and she continues to work one day per week in this role.

In May 2024, Kheyrra took on additional work experience at ARE Café and was soon offered paid employment, which she maintained for six months. During this time, she also completed her RSA to further strengthen her employment opportunities.

While there have been some challenges along the way, with the support of natural supports and effective strategies, Kheyrra has continued to grow her skills, confidence, and capacity. We’re so proud of her achievements and ongoing progress 👏✨

If you or someone you know wants to build real employment opportunities like Kheyrra has, our Customised Employment Program is here to help 🌟 Email Intake@koomarri.asn.au to find out how we can support the next step in your employment journey.
