Congratulations to Jasmine Kastaniotis on being appointed as a QinetiQ Fellow.

This incredible achievement recognises Jazz’s many contributions to QinetiQ, especially her role as National Program Manager for the Army MakerSpace Program. Jazz’s innovation led to the partnership between QinetiQ Australia and the Australian Army in creating the MakerSpace, a space that offers both formal and informal education to soldiers.

MakerSpace has been established at nine military bases across Australia and offers formal and informal training to soldiers in capabilities such as CAD software, 3D printing and scanning, and electronics programming. MakerSpace sites have welcomed almost 7,000 personnel since its inception in 2022.

Jazz’s achievement was celebrated in the United Kingdom where she was formally presented with her Fellowship award by Steve Wadey, QinetiQ Group CEO.

“It’s so wonderful to be recognised not only for my contributions across my career, but also for the ideas that I’ve had that I’m now encouraged to pursue through the Fellowship Program. QinetiQ has enabled me to take my experience in the maritime domain and learn and grow across air and army. It has been a wonderful place to grow across all the Defence domains,” said Jasmine.

QinetiQ’s global Fellowship Scheme provides public endorsement of the achievements and impact of our accomplished technical, scientific, engineering and business leaders. Our Fellows are the bedrock of our capabilities, products and services.

Congratulations again Jazz. Thank you for all your dedication and hard work.

ICYMI, QinetiQ has reinforced its position as a world leader in advanced threat representation and mission-readiness training with the production of the 10,000th Banshee. The Banshee is a cost-effective Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed for threat representation and operational training.

Produced at our manufacturing facility in the southeast of England, it is used by more than 40 nations and can emulate crewed aircraft, missiles and other UAVs.

QinetiQ offers a range of Banshee targets, including the Banshee Whirlwind, Jet 40+, and Jet 80+ variants. Each can be customised with optional payloads to simulate threats for various defence applications across maritime, air-to-air and land-to-air combat training.

This National Reconciliation Week, QinetiQ is bridging now to next – leading with reflection, and building a better future together.

Our people are leading the way to reconciliation with the development of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Driven by a dedicated team of volunteers, our RAP Working Group have been listening, learning and laying the foundation for change.

Bridging now to next means more than words — it means actions that matter. It’s about making reconciliation a lived experience in our workplace, by recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and by challenging ourselves to do better.

Hear from some of our RAP Working Group members on why they’re part of this journey and what reconciliation means to them.

Cohen Young: “Being indigenous myself I wanted an opportunity to support initiatives like workplace awareness and advocating for First Nation businesses. From hosting BBQs to facilitating cultural awareness training, being able to have a voice in a large company has been really rewarding for me personally and demonstrated QinetiQ's commitment to reconciliation.”

Karen Hughes: “Over the last few years we’ve employed a number of early careers indigenous people. We’ve developed an early careers yarning circle that allows our young people to support each other as they develop careers within QinetiQ.”

Ruth Harrison: “I joined the RAP Working Group because I want to be part of the change, not just a supporter from the sidelines. I’m passionate about helping others, especially those who haven’t always been given the same opportunities or platforms to speak from”

Sam Pinskier: “Organisations getting involved with and contributing to reconciliation is one of many aspects of the reconciliation journey for this country which I hope will lead to better health outcomes, education and economic opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”

Ayla Roberts: “Members of the RAP Group and other identities within QinetiQ have provided time and effort in drafting and implementing actions to help close the gap and provide training and education to QinetiQ employees to encourage understanding of our First Nations people.”

Thank you to all of our RAP Working Group members for building the way for reconciliation at QinetiQ.

When Terry Lim, a Mechatronics Graduate, joined QinetiQ in February 2024, he didn’t expect to be making a major contribution to a key customer capability within his first few months. But that’s exactly what happened – highlighting how meaningful and impactful early careers roles can be at QinetiQ.

After joining the Maritime team as part of the graduate program, Terry quickly got involved in the Tracking Range Task – a program with national significance. The Tracking Range Task is a sophisticated underwater tracking system that allows high-precision tracking of underwater vehicles.

Terry played a key role in learning how to use and implement the system within a few months, which was successfully demonstrated at Autonomous Warrior in October 2024. His strong grasp of software, eagerness to learn, and a proactive approach made him a key member of the team – despite his short tenure. The successful demonstration not only impressed the customer but also demonstrated the value of investing in early careers talent.

“Terry stood out right from the start and has been a major asset to the team,” said James Merrick, Test & Evaluation Engineer, who acted as Terry’s manager during the project. “He’s confident, technically capable, and always looking for ways to improve. He’s also incredibly proactive – qualities that made a big difference on a fast-paced and complex task like this.”

Terry’s story is a fantastic reminder that early careers roles in QinetiQ are more than just a learning experience – they're a chance to contribute meaningfully to real-world outcomes. Thank you, Terry, for your incredible work – we can’t wait to see what you do next.

This ANZAC Day, we honour those who have served, those who continue to serve, and the communities and workplaces that support them.

Through the voices of our veteran employees and current ADF reservists, we reflect on the enduring values of mateship, courage, sacrifice and service that define the ANZAC spirit, and how their experience in uniform continues to shape their purpose and perspective in life and work.

As a defence industry partner, we’re proud to support those who serve by creating meaningful career pathways for veterans and reservists and recognising the value they bring to our workforce in having an intimate understanding of our customer and the outcomes we’re delivering. It’s also wonderful to provide employment opportunities for veterans to continue serving their country long after their formal service is over.

We spoke to some of our veterans on the importance of ANZAC Day and what it means to them. Thank you to those who participated, including Jasmine Kastaniotis, Jodie Brooks and Peter Stubbs.

Watch now and take a moment to reflect on the legacy of service this ANZAC Day.

This week we welcomed Andrew Hastie MP, Shadow Minister for Defence visited our QinetiQ Air Affairs site in Nowra as part of the Defence Industry Business Forum in Gilmore. Attending with him was The Hon Andrew Constance, Liberal for Gilmore, and Marise Payne, Campaign Manager and Former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia.

During the visit Nick Mair, Managing Director, QinetiQ Air Affairs, gave a tour of the site, including our aircraft maintenance hangers, and provided the chance for the team to take a close look at our Australian-designed and manufactured Phoenix Jet, suite of towed targets, and our highly capable fleet of Lear Jets.

Our Lear Jet capability plays a critical role in delivering threat representation and mission rehearsal services for the Australian Defence Force, providing flexible, real and live training environments that help keep our forces mission-ready.

The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the vital work our team delivers in Gilmore and throughout Australia, supporting Australia’s Defence capability through local innovation, engineering, and manufacturing.

We are proud to share the news that QinetiQ has become the first Australian defence and security company to hold both Defence Aviation Safety Regulations (DASR) Subpart 21J Military Design Organisation, and Subpart 21G Military Production Organisation approvals for all Defence Force (ADF) aircraft.

These combined approvals provide an integrated, end-to-end capability for Defence customers, ensuring both the design and production of critical components can be managed under one roof and further enhancing our capabilities in meeting the evolving needs of Australia’s Defence requirements.

We are only the sixth company in Australia to receive the DASR Subpart 21G authority, a distinction that expands our extensive capabilities in aerospace design, production and certification.
